...sorry mods, couldn't help myself. In all seriousness though, cluster fuck of epic proportions. As I was explaining over on the other side, port captain fucked up. That ship was supposed to have an escort. Also, gross incompetence in only dropping one anchor and effectively turning that thing into a giant tether ball. 6 construction workers are dead, my only is that they went so fast that they didn't feel it. The families of the survivors need to sue the Port Authority AND whatever part of the DOT this falls under

I took it down once, with, I know you won't believe this, our very own potus nee mensa, and we both did it together ten years at least before it even opened.

Well that's embarrassing. Had it actually been there in 67-68 I would have crossed it. And that aside I have in fact crossed it many times. on our many excursions to the DC area and Virginia and the Carolinas. But around the mid nineties I think all our Virginia trips were by way of the eastern shore crossing back at Norfolk

I looked into this a little. According to my sources, while there are lots of ports on the East Coast, some are not as capable as Baltimore (for example, the port of Philadelphia has size restrictions due to depth, and some of the bigger ships that dock in Baltimore can't be accommodated in Philadelphia).

And so it won't be exactly simple to re-route everything.

On the other hand, the entire harbor doesn't have to be cleared of the debris from the fallen bridge; only enough so that the channel is passable. This might not take very long and will start as soon as humanitarian rescue/recovery efforts finish up.

We do fly into Baltimore/Washington Airport several times a year. Glad that we don't have to drive or take the train over that bridge to get to my daughter's place.

I believe you’re talking about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It has two tunnels. It’s freaking awesome drive. I was stationed at Fort Story Virginia and I could see the bridge from the beach. Great times.

Yep from southern tip of DelMarVa to Norfolk. 17 miles of bridges. Tunnels and cause ways. The two tunnels provide an inbound and an outbound shipping lane. Love the crossing and the ride down the eastern shore. May be headed back to OBX in September for our next crossing!

We drive to Va Beach every other summer. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge means we are almost there. Nice ride.

the port of Baltimore moved 51 million tons of cargo last year, that was tops in the country. Baltimore is what it is because of the Bay, if Philly had that they would have the same capacity. Now, with all of that being said I don't understand why Wilmington is not more of a port city
 
I hate using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It unnerves me.

( Once water was dripping on windshield. Hubby said condensation, I said just get us out. Another times whales/ dolphins were hitting the tunnel, weird sound)

Have you ever seen the movie daylight with Sylvester Stallone? That was pretty wild how he escaped being trapped in a tunnel.

My wife hates it too…but it’s nothing compared to driving those things over the water through the Hampton Roads area, those things are at water level and that shit creeps me out

I went to college in Hampton Roads and lived there a good while. Endless tunnels and bridges, which adds to the ridiculous traffic, the low at water level( I did my time doing those ugh) than you have all the arm force bases they have there just adds to it. Nope, I love the area but nope. LOLOL

Wow...the shit that is coming out about this...

okay, as I suspected the ship was outbound but still inside the channel. The ship's captain was told by the port captain to drop the port anchor, which spun it directly into the support. Also, the ship's captain had requested tug assistance.

This stinks to high fucking Heaven
