This is probably an old one for ye guys, but i thought it was worth posting:)

Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can..

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday .
Both Presidents were shot in the head

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln ..

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln , was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln ' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe , Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

Creepy isnt it ;)

Not another off topic thread. I was hoping for a football thread. :(

;)

Denis, did you watch the KY Derby this weekend?

There was a horse named 'Denis from Cork' and Annihilus immediately thought of you. Can't remember if you're from Cork or not, but the 'Denis' with one 'm' was the kicker.

You didn't win, btw....but at least they didn't kill you because you broke your ankles either, so it's probably a wash.

Yeah I've never seen Dennis spelled with one "m" ;)

But to act as the history teacher and 'explain" it, coincidence and the laws of probability.

If you were to take any two people, you could find a whole host of items that can be compared in such a fashion.

Since the quantity of possible things to compare is a very very large number, there are bound to be a handful of things that can be compared or are the same.

With so many things that could be compared, it would be more surprising if there was nothing that matched up in such an oblique fashion as on your list.

I believe the above should read:

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe , Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Monroe, Marilyn.

to those of you who have never come across this in history...what the hell is being taught

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't bet on Denis but I did bet Eight Belles to win. Oh well. Very sad day for the owner.
