So What About Jarrett Stidham

We don't really know about Jarrett Stidham, NFL backup qb.

We know he'll compete and stay poised throughout the competition.

Yes, Indians are considering going back to their previous name Cleveland Naps. This original name was established by their 1st superstar and player manager Nap Lajoie.

I really do not see any racial, ethnic, or other issues with Washington Redskins or Cleveland Indians. Next thing you know there will be guff about NCAA team names or mascots like Florida State Seminoles...... :shrug_n:

It’s a name out of strength and reverence.

Nobody sits down and says what’s the saddest, most pathetic, anemic, soft, wimpy name I can call my club.

Is the Celtics name in jeopardy? Makes me wonder.

No, white people are not "oppressed" so no one gives a damn if they may be "offended"

Yes the Celts had slaves, but they were other white people, so no foul.

Sorry to get political here, but dem's de facts.

Of course not.

White.

Catholic.

Drunk.

Abusive.

All walks of life have free reign to crack funny or poke stereotypical comments at the Irish.

It’s the most flagrant but accepted racist action openly committed since forever.

The Cardinals?

Though I suppose they could peck the eyes out of Dolphins.

State bird.

Plus, baseball.

Seahawks, Eagles, Cardinals. Which one is not like the others? Cardinals are a symbol of giving and love. Zero danger to anything except birdseed. Even stinking sparrows have been known to chase crows away from the nests.

Calling a team the Cardinals is sad, pathetic, anemic, puny, soft, and wimpy.

In high school I was a seahorse. The only male animal that gives birth........

The people who want these names changed will be back for something else. It will never end. Their anger and unhappiness with their own lives is bottomless. They’ve hated for years what football stands for. Not the nfl per se, but the hate football. They hate the values young men learn while growing up in a team situation. Things like responsibility, accountability. If you didn’t grow up with a good family, football to some extent can teach you those. The names will change and these people will be back for more, doing their best to tie socialism to racial equality, and guilt our nation into destroying itself.

I'll say this, going back to high school, JS was the most poised person on the field and that includes his coaches. Always under control with his wits about him. Under pressure? Go back to the 2017 Auburn Alabama game - Bama was #1 in the country - and watch this young man perform in the biggest game of his career to that point.

The same could be said about Cam Newton - he destroyed Bama in a comeback victory for Auburn and then he did it to Oregon in the title game in 2010. Both play their best in big situations. Both keep their cool but in different ways. JS maintains calmness while CN becomes electric. Both are effective as leaders and as individuals.

The Irish were persecuted in this country as they came over in droves during the famine. Blackballed and unemployable. Took years to gain status. They learned the language and became part of the American culture.

As an Irishman, if they changed the Celtics name, I would be crushed. And I was not offended by the nickname "Orangemen."

Back when it was done right.

Come in legally. Assimilate to the existing culture externally. Maintain your own in your home or if you lived in a place of a preponderance of your culture(Southie).
Learn the language! Work. Behave. Rinse. Repeat.

Just imagine if they’d dug their heels in like our Hispanic “friends” and every voice directory in English was followed with a corresponding Gaelic translation.

Didn't know you were an orangeman. Just 4 Days, to your grand holiday, Orangemen's day celebrating the battle of the Boyne (Jul 1-12. 1690), William of Orange v. James II. The onset of the ongoing thing between the Protestants and Catholics.

Cheers, :toast:

Not an Orangeman. As Catholic as the day is long. But I wasn't offended by the use of Orangemen as a mascot. Or by using a leprechaun to sell breakfast cereal. Or the term "mick" or "paddy."

It should be a good season. Two good qb's!

Here are the mascot names of the rez schools in Montana (numerous reservations here):

Wolves
Bears
Thunderbirds (Not the wine)
Northernstars
Indians
Pirates
Chiefs
Vikings
Morningstars
Warriors
Braves/Bravettes
Eagles
Wildcats
Bearcubs
Bulldogs

...for a reference. Some of the towns are redundant/have the same mascots.

Washington Warriors sounds decent actually. :shrug_n: The Natives WILL respect that name.

The leftie movement may not let them respect that.

This is a pretty cool video about Jarrett.

I didn't know that in the time between Baylor and Auburn he played scout team QB for a Texas HS team.

That's something that would endear him to BB: Love the game.

Regardless as to what happens with Cam, I feel a whole lot better about Stidham as our QB after watching this.

So do I, OPT. He has overflowing intangibles and enough talent to get the job done. I think he's pretty damned solid.

I was looking forward to seeing Stidham play in 2020, but the more I read about Cam the better I liked him for this year, and have Stidham take another year to learn under Newton as well as Brady. Now I'm concerned if he plays too well the Pats could franchise him and delay Stidham a third year.

Although I do see the humor in complaining about a QB playing so well that the franchise tag would be worth it :D

Stidham will still be in his rookie deal, Cams tag would be huge in comparison. Even if he plays like his super bowl year, which I doubt, but even then the difference in the cap hit is extreme enough to give anyone adding the numbers pause.
Even then. Cam is ten games above .500 in his career. That’s including the 15 win year. He’s had competent coaching, a good to great defense, an above average line, and a stud target in Olson. I get it, when cams rolling he’s looked great. But he’s had his share of subpar play. He’s not the guy I want converting a 3 and 8 in the fourth quarter on 45 yard line.

Cam is here because he’s a cheap dart through. He won’t be back next season.
