Looking at the Patriots - 2019

Do you remember that guy Tully Banta-Cain?

God, he was s**t.

He did have a 10 sack season once, in 2010 I believe?

Although like 6 of those sacks came against the bills if I recall Correctly 😂

Steve Belichick apparently takes over as new Patriots cornerbacks coach
1
It looks as if New England has given the younger Belichick a new role.

Is Steve good though? I know the players like him and he's different to his dad in that he's more their age and can probably relate to them better. But is he a good coach with the Xs and Os? Can't say the DBs were not playing great, so hopefully, a lot of his fingerprints are over that.

it's a curse for him in many ways. His name will always raise questions. Is he there just because of his dad? But I just cannot see BB giving anyone a free ride to any coaching spot, even his own son. This is a steep curve he seems to be on so he must be doing a lot of things right.

Like you I don't think Belichick gives anyone a free pass and the nepotism label doesn't seem to have affected the Ryan bothers or Wade Phillips so there's that. But Steve still has a long way to go yet.

You can always argue the Ryans are overrated, but Wade Phillips is an excellent DC.

Could always go either way, though. Shula's kids sucked at coaching, i don't care how long they've kicked around the league.

I like to think that Bill has been to his Kids as his dad was to him. He cherished his Dad and that would be, I would think, his choice as to how to honor his father. I certainly don't know this for sure, but Bill is legendary as a teacher. I have imagined the Kids coming home from school and watching tape into the wee small hours for ages. Wouldn't it be just perfect if my little fantasy were in fact not one?

Cheers

Why wouldn't he be? :shrug_n:

My dad trained me in his business...and I was a full time worker at 11. I started when I was 9. This sort of stuff was common in agriculture at least...

It doesn't have to mean that they absolutely love each other...it just means that they understand each other and are in synch.

Wade sucked as a head coach, but, he is one of the best DC's in the league. Easily...

Rex Ryan wasn't bad in Baltimore at least.

Coaching professional athletes is a bit different than growing potatoes.

The athlete has to respect you. The potatoe? Not so much.

BB got a TE from the German League.

Jakob Johnson played tight end for the Stuttgart Scorpions of the German Football League last season, catching 43 passes for 474 yards and four touchdowns. A Stuttgart native, the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Johnson was signed by the Patriots on Monday as part of the NFL’s International Pathway Program.
He displayed quite a bit of versatility during his college career at the University of Tennessee. As a member of the Volunteers from 2014 to 2017, Johnson played tight end, fullback, lined up on both the offensive and defensive lines, and also spent time on special teams. He finished his collegiate career with 22 tackles, but only three receptions. But if there is anything Belichick loves out of his players, it’s an ability to play multiple roles on the field. As part of the International Pathway Program, if Johnson doesn’t earn a spot on New England’s 53-man roster next season, he will be granted a special 11th spot on the team’s practice squad. He will not, however, be eligible for a promotion during the season with that special spot.
