So What About Jarrett Stidham

Stidham will still be in his rookie deal, Cams tag would be huge in comparison. Even if he plays like his super bowl year, which I doubt, but even then the difference in the cap hit is extreme enough to give anyone adding the numbers pause.
Even then. Cam is ten games above .500 in his career. That’s including the 15 win year. He’s had competent coaching, a good to great defense, an above average line, and a stud target in Olson. I get it, when cams rolling he’s looked great. But he’s had his share of subpar play. He’s not the guy I want converting a 3 and 8 in the fourth quarter on 45 yard line.

Cam is here because he’s a cheap dart through. He won’t be back next season.

This is correct. Regardless if he plays decent or bad, I dont see him back. He was desperate and the pats got him for a bag of footballs. You dont build a team around a heartless injury prone QB in his 30's. The homers will
run out and buy his jersey and it will be on sale for 39.95 a week after the season.

For every player that does that there’s two that sign extensions and publicly say they wish they got here sooner.

If he’s a stud again Bill will try and retain him. I have no doubt. And if Cam has a great year and enjoys it here and who knows what else. He might be very hesitant to go see what Chicago is like.

If he plays lights out the pats will not sign him. I have watched a lot of great players walk out that door because of money. Cam is about Cam. Now to me none of that will happen, he either wont make it through the season because he will get hurt or he will discover that have to be accurate sucks.

QB remains the most important position on the field. You invest in lights out performance. This isn’t even debatable.

I've seen a lot of great players (and players who thought they were great) leave the Pats, too.
Not one was the starting QB that BB wanted to lead the team. That includes Tom Brady.

-Bledsoe had been the starter but he was starter no more.
-JimmyG hadn't yet become the starter (plus TB had an epic resurgence to maintain his position because of the competition JG provided).
-Tom Brady became the latest QB BB no longer wanted to lead his team. That's just the fact, whatever the reasons, as complicated as they must be, BB was ready to start over without TB12.

If Cam plays well and stays healthy, "if he plays lights out", BB's options are left open on purpose in case he wants Cam to lead the team. If not, he'll be gone. Franchise QBs do not come around very often and every team struggles to find one. If Cam is the guy, BB will pay him.

Correct, there is just no foreseeable reason why Bill wouldn't pay him if he has a stellar year. And if Cam is happy here, if he feels a pull to BB and Kraft for taking him, then they will get a deal done. That doesn't mean that Cam might not leave if he has that stellar year and a team jumped in and decided to offer silly money, but Bill will try and get a deal done in that circumstance and will pay what the team can afford.

Yep. He won’t go silly money or silly term, but he’ll certainly pay for greatness at that position.

And with the ability to tag he’s not settling for a walk 3rd. If he plays MVP type play and it becomes known a team wants to pay the world for him and Bill is not interested in matching that trade value easily can become a 1st or more plus .

Oh I am not going down that road again. JG was a shit show. Or Mankins. Or A$$ante.

Greatness at the position? Cam had one great year. One. Outside of that he’s a .500 QB.

He a great value right now. If he’s halfway successful this season he won’t be next year. The franchise tag is not a good deal for him at current QB rates. Come on fellas. Pump the brakes a bit here.

OF course. True fans everywhere are best known for pumping their breaks.

Still, I'm stuck looking forward with irrational optimism. Forgive me,

Cheers

People who see Cam as a 1 year wonder haven't been paying attention to his or to Panthers history.

Cam's biggest flaw has always been his throwing mechanics which led to inconsistency, especially with short throws. Correct that and you've got a winner. (More than 11 yds, Cam has always been a top 10 QB for comp.%)

Rivera finally saw the light & hired a good OC. Norv Turner became his OC for 2018. Turner replaced dumbass Mike Shula as the OC. Turner was the very first good OC Newton had at Carolina. Norv Turner and Cam worked on his throwing mechanics which helped Cam immensely. In the first half of his 2018 season, Cam's passing and QBR both went up dramatically (higher than TB's actually for that period) before his throwing shoulder was injured. Look it up. Norv runs the same Erhardt-Perkins offensive scheme we use. And Cam played great. Why wouldn't that great play continue with the Patriots?

That's easy. Because Cam Newton isn't Tom Brady and BB sucks as an HC.

Because he has not played good in 3 years. He is injury prone, he is a show off, he has no heart, and he is not accurate. He has a 59 career completion, so how often was it great? His good attribute is running and he is a big injury risk doing that.

That's easy. Because Cam Newton isn't Tom Brady and BB sucks as an HC.

Only a complete idiot would even out them in the same sentence.....

Stid the Kid is the freaking man. Cam will kill it this year but Stid is the future and will blow Brady outta the water over his career. :domORIGINAL:

I just watched sone highlights from the playoff run to the SB win over the rams.

:) damn it was fun. Brady had some great throws. Beautiful touch on them. Dropping it right where it needed to be. Admittedly I haven’t watched as much of cam, but it seems like he’s out there just throwing laser beams. I dunno. I was pretty excited to see stidham, but the unknown is always exciting. It just seems like cam is delaying the future. I don’t think he’s injury prone. Hell he walked away from a pretty bad car accident. He’s as tough as they come at the position. Running against the biggest guys on the field though.......... it’s just not a recipe for staying healthy. Hearing his quote about josh being able to call stuff that he couldn’t with Brady....... it damn sure sounds like he still wants to be running. I still wonder how he doesn’t choke while chewing gum and taking those hits. Maybe he can turn into a good pure pocket passer. Maybe he got there that one year. I dunno. It sure seemed like even then his legs set up his arm. I don’t think he’s a show off or super cocky or overconfident anymore. Maybe when he came out of college, but how could you not be after that season. Any kid that age would probably be that way.

But way smarter people than me say he had a breakthrough that 15 and 1 year. At this point I just hope we have a season and find out.

I’m really hoping they find a way to get both on the field.

He'll be welcome until he replies to the first guy who posts, "Why does he slam the ball into the turf so often, even when he isn't under pressure?"
