2020 - Playoff Thread

It's a bit early, but we can track movements up and down the likely fixtures week by week.

If the season ended now, this is what we'd get with the new 7 teams per conference format. Only 1st seed gets the bye. Some intriguing matchups, in the AFC I think our Buffalo pals would be a bit nervous going up against the Browns. Which is some statement to make.

Sure but he was owned all night by the Oline and Gronk. He will learn to keep quiet. No reason to put the target on your back.

Best throw of the game. He is playing vintage right now.
How about Mike Evans? What a monster game on a hurt knee.

Today's winners:
Balt, NO, Pitt
rooting for Cle and Tenn though
thinking only Balt-Tenn will be close
VERY impressed w/Heinicke last night. didn't think that game would be close at all, regardless of QB.

I would not sleep on the Bears winning and Brees choking. A tough physical team that will test his broken ribs is not a good match up.
I like the Ravens too and Pitt.

The Bills will be better in their next game. First game jitters. Been 25 years since they won a playoff game. Colts are a pesky team too. That is a good win to start the post-season. Their next game is most likely the Steelers. Should be a good one. They can take the Steelers out and then hopefully KC.
Colts have a stout Defense and were better than I expected. Rivers stepped it up and Buffalo, Jesus, some of the worst tackling ever. We put zero pressure on Rivers. That's sad.
I hate what Frazier did to our D, changing to a Soft Zone was a big mistake. Must be why you're not hearing his name as a head coach anywhere

Brady played well. Probably his best game of the year so far for Tampa.
I have to say I saw a lot of familiar passing schemes - Patriots plays - from him last night. Those crossers to Godwin with the pulling guard...the play Brady got from Manning.

WFT 4th Ranked Defense, 5th Sacks
Brady:
22/40 doesn't sound good but...
380 yards 2 TDs 0 Int 2 Dropped TDs
At least 8 drops total

The last team to put 31 on Wash. was the Ravens and that was way back in week 4. The only other team to put 31+ on Wash. was the Browns, wk 3.

That's the best defense you will play in the AFC.
Reich really blew that game. So many awful decisions. Allen was money when you needed him to be which is a good sign.
I was wondering what happened to your D this year. Didn't realize you had Frazier. What a terrible scheme. I hate zone.

This Bills team looked shaky. Colts had ample chances to win this game; even the refs were trying to help them out in the end.
It is typical colts, especially this years colts. The defense wasn't even a big issue this year for a first time in a long time. I didn't expect to make the playoffs for the colts so making it and making it a game was good enough for me. Have to see what happens with Rivers and who is out there if he comes back or not. He is good enough but not great at times. That said, I have no idea who would be draftable for the Colts or who they could pick up in free agency.

Brees should roll & Kamara is back. Bears are tough but they aren't ready for this NO offense with a healthier Brees.
Both Balt and Tenn have had wtf games this year. Is Tenn healthy enough? LJackson is playing better than he did the first half of the season. Vrabel is smart. He can be my HC after BB.
Balt-Tenn is the kind of game I wouldn't bet on. Too many ifs, ands and buts going on.
Pitt vs Browns could be a runaway or a tight game depending on which version of each team we get and health of Big Ben's arm. Lots at stake for Browns. Another game I wouldn't bet.

Another thing to note on this: Rivers' 91.9 yesterday is the 3rd-best QBR by a losing quarterback in the playoffs in the history of the metric (since 2006). David Garrard in 2007 divisional round vs. Patriots and Russell Wilson in Super Bowl XLIX are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

It's Super Wild Card Weekend! Looking forward to Super Divisional Weekend, Super Conference Championship Weekend, and Super Super Bowl Weekend! Everything is super!! Thank you!!!

I guess with the pandemic the NFL also lost their creativeness. Just add super to everything and Spongebob, nobody will notice a difference. :coffee:

It's just lazy. They were actually saying in Week 17, "It's going to be one wild Wild Card Weekend." Truly cringeworthy.

Colts have a very good OL so I wouldn't be too pissed about not much pressure.

Also, I think you're correct about Reich & Analytics. I get it if coaches want to use some of that info but it always comes down to basic fundamental football. Hat on a hat beat the guy in front of you.

Yep, I think McD had more influence on playcalling the last 2 years and this year turned most of it over the Frazier - who just has been exposed as not being the DC we need here. That Cover 2/Soft Zone is terrible and his blitzing is never timed right. We could have contained Murray way better but he was afraid to blitz vs AZ

I thought Rivers p[layed a hell of a game. He looked younger than his years. Really threw the ball well!
