100% agree. If BB wants to keep Mac, he's going to have to draft 2 high end bookend tackles and invest in better WR's...via draft or free agency. Not Agholor. Like a #1 WR.But what is he trying to build? I hope he's not trying to win the same way he did with Brady because there aren't many quarterbacks who can do what Brady allowed Bill B to do for 20 years. Outside of Bill B getting a quarterback in the same mold as Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Brady, or Rodgers in their primes, he better be doing what Kyle Shannahan is doing out in SF and constructing a team that can win without having a rarity talent at QB. The above type of quarterbacks don't come in great supply and they definitely aren't in every draft.
It's not the only reason though which is what you seem to consistently think it is. I think it's a combination of bad coaching and O Line play and bad QB play. Surely you don't absolve Mac for all the failings on offense?
Hmmm....all 3 but the weighting of blame goes 60% offensive staff, 35% Oline, 5% Mac. Maybe 10% Mac.
Are they? It doesn't seem like he's building anything, just trying to plug holes as they go. There's been no progression in 3 straight years, just a straight out middling team year in and year out. I don't see this getting any better next season either. Either Patricia is going to remain the "OC" or they're going to have to reset under a new one. Both mean another wasted season. They're in that zone of mediocre hell right now and it's a bitch to get out of in the NFL.Still in the middle of a rebuild.
They drafted decently as of late...they could have done a little better, but, they do need a few more players. As far as the coaches go though...it's been already stated a bajillion times. Are they? Bill Belichick’s 2022 Patriots Are a Disaster of His Own Doing
It’s time for Patriots coach Bill Belichick to replace Matt Patricia - Sports Illustrated
The New England coach doesn’t need to validate his career, but his future could hinge on whether he’s willing to hire a real offensive coordinator and replace Matt Patricia.www.si.com
A popular hot take for outsiders but these 2 paragraphs are truth.
"I see the past three years as proving a different point: Brady, the best quarterback ever, needed an elite roster to win the Super Bowl, and Belichick, the best coach ever, needs elite quarterback play to win one. Brady had that elite roster when he got to Tampa Bay. Belichick has not had elite quarterback play since Brady left.
Everything the Patriots do on offense from here has to be guided by that quest. We can debate how good Jones can be, but he can clearly be better than he has been under Patricia. The Patriots need fresh, creative thinking from a real offensive coordinator. If you and I can see that, then surely the best coach in history can see it, too."
In other words, BB needs to find another job for Patricia next year and replace him with a competent offensive mind. Indeed.
The “Covid“ season can be tossed. So really are we that far along into a rebuild? The key to fixing this team as of this point is what happens during this off-season with regard to the staff. We should know pretty quick after the bills game what is going to happen. If Bill intends to try to continue with the current staff, there will be many many many many many many many calls for him to be replaced himself. As hard as it is for me to say this, I’ll be first in line. No fully functioning head coach can watch what’s going on and think it can be fixed. Are they? Unlike my repeated calls for Patricia’s removal, the “disaster“ response never gets old.Oh,Oh, a disaster.
Thank you for posting. This was insightful. The big question is will Patricia be back.Bill Belichick’s 2022 Patriots Are a Disaster of His Own Doing

I agree. But it seems Bill badly misunderstood how difficult it is to be an offensive coordinator. Or way over estimated Patricia‘s ability to get up to speed fast. The hirings were due to his loyalty (which I admire in most cases), and the lack of change is also due to loyalty (which Should piss off Kraft to no end as Bill has thrown a season away for Matt Patricia).IMO the hiring of both Patricia and Judge was to help them burnish their NFL resumes by adding duties not previously held as they are both in their 40's w/ years ahead of them in The League to make additional bank
that's all I got
Lol. You don’t toss a season. There was still an off-season that year and a draft. The “Covid“ season can be tossed. So really are we that far along into a rebuild? I wanted him to take the mantle from Ernie.I think Bill knows how difficult being a coordinator in the NFL is, seems more like he thought Matty P was capable of picking things up fairly quickly? Wonder if Patricia maybe picked things up quick when he was DC and Bill thought he'd be able to do the same as OC?
As for the lack of change, sure he could fire Patricia, but who does he replace him with? Don't think there is anyone else on the staff right now that has shown they are capable of being the OC, and I doubt BB would have been able to get someone in from outside the team to join as interim OC.
Loyalty is admirable, I think Patricia will stick around, but I don't see a role for him in coaching.
Move Patricia into that Ernie role if it isn't filled already. He didn't/doesn't need to fire anyone. A mid-season change of the "play caller" is not unprecedented at all.I think Bill knows how difficult being a coordinator in the NFL is, seems more like he thought Matty P was capable of picking things up fairly quickly? Coach currently on staff? If that's the case, move Patricia to the booth now. Let's not wait.Nick Caley is a likely candidate.
