The Patriots' 2024 Off Season Thread

Guess it wasn't Bill after all huh? Sheesh. They haven't improved in FA AT ALL. Nothing. Gibson..is an improvement on the margins. So, it's offense in the draft. Oh boy.
Welcome to rooting for treadmill team. You can alway demand . They tank again for a quick fix

He got overpaid but not by a ridiculous amount. The Pats FO knew they'd have to spend more to get FAs to come here. It's been talked about for weeks.
They have the money to spend and chose not to spend it. Tommy has been talking about cap floor. At this point I'm wondering how the Pats will spend to
that floor by signing jags
and a few core players from last year's 4 win team. Do something ffs!
You're seeing it. Short-term contracts that can accelerate everything to this year's cap.

It's a waste of cash spending. Talk is cheap. "Weaponize the offense" is stale already. Tom E. blamed missing on Hopkins last year on Bill on Early Edition just now. But ironically, he didn't blame this FO for missing out on Ridley. He said "maybe Ridley just didn't want to come here"! Excuses. I'm looking right at Kraft for missing on Ridley and Hopkins, too, at
this point. At least Perry said they had the cash and they should have spent it on the best WR in FA...that the Patriots FO over promised and under delivered. He's right about that.

Perry went on to say Eliot Wolf is treading on thin ice. That if he wants to make his boss happy and keep his job after the draft he'd better not over spend for any FA.
He said Wolf is feeling the heat from above.
Iow, blame Kraft for not getting Ridley but he didn't come out and say that.

I'm curious to see how far Curran's going to take this. The turn's coming.

You will never hear Curran say Kraft is cheap as long as Mayo is the HC. Once he's gone all bets are off.

Curran says he's neutral on what the Pats have done so far. He mentioned the poverty offense is still poverty even with the addition of Brissett. Still no OT or WR.

I agree with him. Last year's poverty O is still poverty. We're no better than we were last year. Thanks, Kraft.

Tyron Smith is still out there.

Nope. They have the cap space and chose not to spend it.

It is clear they did not have the money. It is clear they never had the money.

Sorry if it looks like I am splitting hairs but to me the difference is important as we grapple to fully understand the genius of Belichick now that the cheapness of Krafty has been revealed fully.

My plan: Sign OT Tyron Smith, 1st pick QB and 2nd pick WR and 3rd pick OT who can play OG.

Not exactly the worst plan in some ways. With this D, a Bengals type reboot would be pretty good.

The reality, three OL like the backup guy from TB they just signed - 2 from Lavishka Shenault and company in FA - draft Jayden Daniels and hope for the best the rest of the draft.

UP To Date Summary:

The Pats brought back 5 contributors from last year. That's a good thing but still status quo.
With 100 mil in cap space the Pats added 3 backup linemen, a backup TE, a backup QB, a backup LB, and a dime a dozen running back who fumbles a lot.
Filling roster spots with jags.
Pretty much the very same team as the 4 win team last year minus the GOAT HC.

No starting OT or WR. No cash spent on difference makers.
Kraft's cheapskate plan is working to perfection. There's no other way to see it. Even those who hated BB have to recognize Kraft's penurious influence by now.
Is there anyone left who still believes Kraft when he said "Money has not been held back. I tried to get Bill to spend more"? Bullshit.
Sad.
