Alk's European Vacation (advice needed)

My son and I spent 3 week in Ireland we lived in an apartment just off the Ha'penny Bridge had a great time. Yes the people are extremely friendly to Americans.

I can talk for Ireland BigKen when I say that Americans have always been and will always be welcomed warmly here. We look at Americans like our kin and they do the same with us. There is a connection there and your wife will see it when she comes. The US flag is very common here, flown along the Irish flag and European one around the country.

Just tell her and your daughter to avoid the weekend around the 26th August as Notre Dame are playing Navy in Dublin in the College Football Classic and 40,000 Americans are travelling over for the game so hotel prices and flights will be through the roof.
And someone will ask her something about the Kennedys.

Wrapping up another day of the European tour. Another pretty light day. Met up with our son's dancer group which happened to be performing in the town that my wife's family came from. We just missed the town's midsummer celebration which apparently was quite a reger. The dance group held a nice candlelight ceremony for our son and we were able to scatter some of his ashes outside the church. Tomorrow we follow them to Gothenburg to an amusement park. We also just found out that Bruce Springsteen will be there tomorrow night so we might see if we can possibly squeeze that in too.

Today was a full day. We had a quick breakfast and hit the ground running. A nice scenic drive from Lyseskil to Gothenburg where we spent the day at Liseberg amusement park. We caught it in a slow day and had virtually no wait on the rollercoasters. About two hours before the concert we decided that we would go see Bruce Springsteen who will be playing two shows here. The tickets were $25 after all service fees. We found parking near the stadium for $5 and I had a $6 hot dog on the way there. I'm so glad that we made that decision. He put on a hell of a show. Now we're heading to the hotel and NOT setting alarms.

Yesterday was a long day of driving and I didn't get a chance to post anything. We drove from Göteberg (Gothenburg in Murican) to Stockholm which is a little over a five hour drive. We made several stops along the way at candy stores in little villages that I can't recall the names. It's safe to say that we will probably have at least one full carry on of candy by the time we leave here. We're about to go get some breakfast and then we will be off to spend the day at different museums.

Sounds like you are making the most of your trip.

Another busy day in Sweden. We covered four museums in about seven hours. The Vasa Museum, The Museum of Spirits, The Viking Museum and The Abba Museum. Then we spent the rest of the day just exploring the town. We stumbled across where they were setting things up for the Gotland Runt. I guess it's a fairly big boat race. The race doesn't actually start until Sunday when we will already be gone but they spend Thursday-Saturday gearing up for the race so we might try to go check that out a little bit.

We started our last full day in Sweden with a light breakfast followed by 11:00 drinks at The Icebar. After that we got brunch. Then we headed over to the Royal Palace for a tour. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not into the whole Royals thing and I was pretty checked out on tours at this point so I really didn't get many good pictures. After the tour we made an impromptu stop at an Ink & Drink lounge where they do walk in tattoos. My wife and I both got tattoos to commemorate the trip. We were also able to meet up with a friend of our son. They had got to know each other while playing a video game online and had made big plans to meet up while he was in Sweden. Unfortunately that didn't happen but he was still nice enough to meet up with us so we could get to know him a little bit. Tomorrow morning we will get up to pack and have breakfast before we head to the airport for the last leg of our adventure.

We made it to London. Initial impressions are that I'm not impressed. Much busier and louder than everywhere else we have been. Granted it was Friday night so we'll see how the next two days go.

It's too hot and crowded in the summer. So many tourists and the Aircon is not widespread so you bake on the Tube etc.

And be careful, the crime rate is through the roof there.

It's not my favorite city and it can be expensive. Gotta go at least once, though.

Just about anywhere in Ireland or Scotland > London, IMO.
