Alk's European Vacation (advice needed)

Today is the day!! Last night we saw our son off. He's currently on a bus to Chicago with his group who will then catch a flight to Sweden. My wife and I leave this afternoon. One flight to Chicago then on to Iceland.

We made it to Reykjavik. Absolute brutal flight. I couldn't sleep at all. Got to the hotel and took a 2 hour power nap before we hit the town. Made it to Thor's Power Gym to check that out for our son. Went to the Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral. Then I had my Icelandic hot dog which was probably the best I ever had. Now we're at Lemmy which is our second bar of the day. Hoping to get some fish and chips before we call it a day. Tomorrow we go on the Golden Circle tour.

Update: I got my fish and chips and finished it off with some black licorice ice cream which was pretty damn good. Now we're chilling in the hotel room. I'll probably make my way down to the lobby for one last beer before I turn in for the night.

Welcome to the Northern Lattitudes! Sunset here is 10pm at the moment. Longest day of the year tomorrow.

Sunset is 9:13 here in Michigan tonight. It will be light our until 10 pm. We are on the west side of the Eastern time zone. West Michigan is even later!

I always find it bizarre how far north we are here compared to other countries like the US. It's probably because we just don't get freezing winters here thanks to the Gulf Stream which keeps the winter temperatures around 9 degrees Celsius which is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Below is how far north we are, I've taken Michigan and gone north and the red circle is the latitude we're at. I mean we that's like Northern Quebec. We should be eskimos over here! Thank god for the warm Gulf Stream from the US south!

A little recap of our first day in Reykjavik. Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral where we lit a candle in memory of our son. Thor's Power Gym otherwise known as The Mountain from Game of Thrones. Unfortunately he wasn't there but we were able to check the place out. And a couple pictures of our first view of Iceland as we flew in.

Do they have a statute to Floki, who was the founder of Iceland? Then he brought a bunch of people who could not get along. Seemed like Floki was always stepping on his own dick.

That's a wrap for day two in Iceland. We fly out tomorrow afternoon for Copenhagen. Today we went on the Golden Circle tour. Thingvellir National Park where apparently they shot The Wall for Game of Thrones, Gaysir, Gullfoss Waterfall, Kerid Crater and The Blue Lagoon. We got back to the hotel at about 10:00 to find that just about all restaurants were closed. We found a pizza joint that was still serving so I crushed a pizza. Now to get to bed so I can get up to make the flight.

Enjoy Copenhagen! And have a Tuborg while there and try the Danish-style Hot Dogs.

If you're with your wife, try and be subtle in Copenhagen Airport, I've never seen more beautiful women in one place.

I haven't made it 25 years by not being subtle. 🤣 Thanks for the hot dog tip. I thought that was only an Iceland thing but my friend that's in Sweden with my son's dancing group said they have them there too.

That's incredible. I hadn't realised we were that far North.
