Barry Sanders

Sanders was by far the best I saw play, Im 37. I would give a distant second to Tomlinson. His moping on the sidelines during the playoff game against the Pats hurts his image, deservedly so, but he was really good.

John Riggins. Now that guy was a beast and tends to be overlooked, IMO.

As much as I loathe him personally, I think Zeke is a beast. I love watching him run. He reminds me of the other legendary RBs in terms of his style and skills.

Riggins was like that tough shit in the neighborhood that would play tackle football in the streets, after the spring thaw before the streets were cleaned and it still was loaded with rocks and stones from the winter sandings.

Tough SOB.

Every RB named so far was awesome. I saw Herschel play against the Pats at the old Foxboro stadium (1986?)

He was huge. Ran over people.

Won the game in OT on a long (65 yards I think) TD run.

Earl the Pearl: Juggernaut. He throws defenders around like they're paper dolls. You'd have to have a death wish to try to stop him.

I recall one of the Pats few playoff games in the early days, 78 I think it was and Earl had his way. Him and Pastorini lit us up and it wasn't close. I was in attendance with Dad.

I remember watching him in a playoff game going absolutely wild, can't recall against who but it was a time when the skins and giants and cowboys were constantly in contention.

Like putting pads on Mighty Joe Young.

Because, you know, King Kong would just be crazy.

He was really good in Tecmo Bowl, too.

One thing that's often mentioned when the conversation turns to Earl was the gargantuan size of his thighs. The only other player I saw play with tree trunks that size was John Hannah.

For me it is John Riggins. He was a character on and off the field. Was also one tough man on the field. One of the few running backs and offenses that essentially could not be stopped when it wanted to run. Running behind Jacoby and Grimm.

I saw the football life of him he had one of my favorite sports, i gonna bring it quotes. "you snap the ball, you give to me, you guys do whatever you got to do and i will figure it out" and "the inevitable is this, I am going to get the ball and I am going to go this way or that way", and then telling justice Sandra Day O'Connor "loosen up, Sandy baby"

He also rocked some hair styles.

It's goes Sanders, Payton & brown. Then everyone else . Their will never be a RB . That should be in the same debate with them. Their was a I in team. When it came to those RB's.

Tomlinson will get slept on, but he's a better version of Walter Payton, if we were to look at it objectively, in a time when the passing game was the focus.

Campbell's a great pick, at least when he was healthy enough to go - although I'd say Bo Jackson was a better version of Campbell - Campbell with elite breakaway speed. Dude ran a ****ing 4.12 40.

The best is Sanders imo. Certainly not a power back, but he could run between the tackles, and was as elusive as we've ever seen in the league.

Anyone who says Brown has a case, although he was bigger, faster, and taller than everyone else (220 lb defensive linemen and such), so to me, while he looks impressive on tape (and he does), it's hard for me to ignore his competition at the time. Guys were selling insurance in the offseasons then.

Anyone choosing John Riggins, you're all racialists.

Why would anyone choose John Riggins anyway?

Oh.

Yeah. No. He wasn't even the best RB on his team (Joe Washington).

It was funny in the football life episode hearing Barry Switzer remembering telling his OU players, for god sake, whatever you do, don't hurt Thurman Thomas! Becuase you do not want their Freshman kid Barry Sanders coming into the game.

Thurman Thomas will get lost to history, and he was a damned fine RB too, deserving of the HoF.

But that's an incredible recruiting job, Thomas then Sanders.
