2 things-

- Pats need a QB

- Wentz is going to be traded

He’s looked like hot garbage at times this year but the Eagles were deveastated across the O-line early. Great talent, just playing for an idiot in Philly. With a full training camp could he be they guy? Personally, i’m not in favor of it but curious as to what rest of you think.

Not with that albatross of a contract, he is not getting traded unless hte Eagles throw in a few high round draft picks....

I never liked him anyway. I always thought they got rid of the wrong guy when they let Foles leave. Huge mistake in my mind.
That contract they offered Wentz was idiotic - 4 years/$128M !!! WITH $107M GUARANTEED !!! They've already paid him $82M to play like crap.
Their opt-out is 2022 but still costs the Eagles $24M in dead cap for 2022. smh. My guess is they'll opt-out and absorb the hit.
Both QBs got lucky that SB year with a great cast of players around them.

Don't throw anything to hard at me but I would take a look at Tyrod Taylor.

There could be several versions of Wentz on the open market this offseason, which is frightening to me.

Bill loves a reclamation project and to me Wentz is a younger version of Cam. He doesn't have, or no longer has, the ability to make a quick decision and get the ball away. He's had too many bad picks and his confidence is shot. I think, for the right price, Bill might be interested.

FWIW, I watch a lot of football with a friend from Philly who is a big Eagles fan, so I've seen a ton of Wentz. I call him Carson Wince. He is presently a dumpster fire with zero confidence, but early in his career he looked every bit the Franchise QB, so........who knows? Take a look at his 2017 stats below. Can he be that guy again? FWIW, he's now 27. I think we all want somebody we can get behind and there'll be an absolute ton of talk about this topic coming up.

One thing to note is that Bill doesn't care if we're comfortable with the idea of Wentz or Sam Darnold or anybody else that'll be in the reject bin this offseason. He might have ideas about how to make these guys successful and minimize their weaknesses the same way he has with dozens of rethreaded/reclaimed Patriots over the years. Should Quarterbacks be any different than, say, Kyle Van Noy was? Or Mike Vrabel? Randy Moss? I doubt very much that Bill would think so.

Moss might the the single greatest rethread project in NFL history. His career appeared dead in the water and I don't need to remind anybody what happened after he came to Foxboro.

Honestly, even his 2018 and 2019 numbers aren't awful. No idea wtf happened to him in 2020 though.

He had 1 good year which stands out prominently in the table Hawg posted.

I kinda agree with Moose. 2018,19 look pretty good to me. If he was doing that here now (if, if, if, I know) we would be solidly in the playoff mix.

Unless he is calling his own plays, that would be on Josh not Carson.

Cam's basically the worst passing QB in the league statistically.

Actually he's 24th and about the same as Justin Herbert & Alex Smith.

He's actually performing better than:
Andy Dalton
Taysom Hill
Fitzpatrick
Foles
Bridgewater
Jimmy G
Tua and
Wentz

His completion % remains better than TB12's for those who care about such things.

I agree 100 percent with the bolded. I had mentioned this on the Other Games thread that Bill might be very interested for the reason you listed - he likes a reclamation project and Wentz is very young and should come at a reasonable price given there will be no trade unless he reworks his contract.

In terms of your last sentence regarding should QBs by any different than Van Noy or Vrable, I believe Bill does believe that and that really, really concerns me. You can get away with C players at every position IMO but QB. You have to have a legit QB to win and to win chips. This is the main reason IMO why Bill is a sub .500 coach without Brady. He has always had average to below average QBs other than Bledsoe who performed horribly under Bill for whatever reason. So that is my concern but I do think Wentz is on Bill's radar and that he has a good of chance of being our QB.

Wentz did a lot with his legs before that injury. It opened up his pass game. He’s just not the same since that ACL tear.

Brian Billick won a Super Bowl. That horseshit illegal formation that didn't get flagged was the turning point.

which is crazy if you've watched those guys play, especially Alex Smith.

As others have noted, it is quite strange that Wentz' career is now circling the bowl the way it is.

From 2017 through last season the kid had 81 TDs against 21 picks. Excellent ratio.

I know that Philly's OL was very good during much of that stretch and has had a ton of injuries and poor play this season, so certainly that is a factor, but outside of TE, Philly hasn't exactly had a lot of talent on the outside. In other words, I don't think the loss of Nelson Agholor and Alshon Jeffrey explains it either. Nor do I believe a knee surgery does either, because he still runs pretty well from what I can see. Is he in the wrong scheme? Is he all hopped up on goofballs? Have the Philly boo-birds stolen his mojo?

I'd be terrified if the Pats signed him, as I said, but it does kind of make sense. Anyhow, I'm hoping for a more stable option to present itself. Even bridges sometimes collapse.
