NFL may release summary of PSI findings

I'm kind of amazed at the resolve of the team, to be able to look this guy in the eye and still respect him when he clearly chose a path. A path to the detriment of the coaches, players, and fans but favorable to himself and the other 31 that WANT to tarnish him.

That is an interesting take. I think had Kraft gone the lawsuit route than it would have compromised the focus of this season which would have been to the detriment of the coaches, players and fans given this team stands just 2 wins from a historic 5th SB.

I think Toms a pretty smart guy.

And I bet he's thought of this whole thing a lot more than he's let on to anyone other than his wife or father.

You don't think there's some corner of his mind wondering why Kraft didn't dig in harder or be more vocal and demonstrative on his behalf after everything he's done and continues to do for this franchise?

Possibly, but Tom is also smart enough to know the dirty side of business, and wouldn't get involved in it any more than he'd get involved with BB's coaching decisions. It just isn't his area of concern.

That would be based off assumptions of the case being handled DURING the season.

Filing time could be adjusted.

Not sure that matters as the media circus would have continued all season with THE story being Kraft suing the league and turning into Al Davis.

I couldn't disagree more.

Theres a difference in stepping out of business decisions that are day-to-day.

Business decisions that drag the GOAT unheralded franchise face and leader through a cesspool don't qualify as that.

This is not directed at you, DS, but to the whole group of persistent anti-Krafters.

Had Kraft done what you and many think he should have would that have affected in anyway the leagues strutting this perverse "release date" right between the afccg and the dance crafted to put the Pats right back in the same shiity boat they were in last year? Is it not one of the nastiest, smallest, most childish things they could come up with?

Does what Tom MIGHT think of Kraft, have relevance to this bit of league turd droppings either?

If not, isn't this just another chance to hijack valid anger at the league and Fraudell and return instead to the Kraft bashing?. Once again, your O, and your right to your o and even the craft of Kraft bashing are all fine. But time and place isn't imo. Once again, I'm pissed at Kraft to SOME extent but allowing others to discuss the league and their crap absent the hijacking would be pretty courteous imo. Resurrecting an old Kraft thread or even starting yet another would be fine with me.

Just MO.

Cheers, BostonTim

I am sure Kraft and Brady have talked face to face about it, and I would not be surprised if Kraft addressed the entire team at some point.

I could not agree more. I also believe that Kraft sees himself in a no win situation until after the case with Brady has run its full course.
He would have to have absolute ruling from the court that what Goodell did was not only overstepping his authority but in fact was clearly a failure by the NFL to prove any alleged wrongdoing by any member of the Team or staff. This is what would need to take place for Kraft to be able to demand that the fine and loss of draft picks be rescinded.

I feel the NFL has only one option and that is to tell the truth because any fudging of numbers will comeback and bite them, I know there are other studies that have been done by independent groups and they will bury the NFL if the NFL decides to lie.

IF Tom wins in court and the NFL ball pressure test is incomplete (as I assume it to be) and lacking any scientific merit yet the NFL claims The Patriots still cheated and the Picks are not returned.

Could Kraft seek defamation based on the value of the picks against the league? would that not be enough of a monetary futures loss, along with all the other crap this past 12 months, to allow Kraft to win?

It could be but much has to ride on how the court rules on the case over all.

I am no legal expert but I do wonder if Kraft accepting the penalties admits some culpability and would make a law suit a long shot to win?

Truthfully I don't think Kraft would even consider that, he's an NFL owners team player. :zzwhip:

If the folks on patsfans are right, I've misunderstood the testing procedures, and it's even worse than I thought.

The NFL is taking balls out of play at halftime, putting new ones in play, and then testing the originals after the game. Obviously the balls will have returned to equilibrium by that point.

It's a brilliant move by the NFL (yes, I'm surprised too) b/c it does the two things they want to do:

1 - Smokes out cheaters, if there are any.
2 - In no way replicates last year's testing process for the AFCCG, and will never replicate those results, thereby making the Patriots look like cheaters.

Well done. I'm assuming Exponent helped them set up these processes. There's no way Goodell or Vincent came up with this.

Conclusion remains the same: PR-wise, we're F'd. Just in time for the NFL's appeal, they will look to bolster their case - and undo the harm Brady has done to their case by playing to an equal or superior level than last year.

Please Mr. Kraft do something about it this time.

EDIT: I re-read the NFL testing procedures, and I think the folks at Patsfans and I are not in agreement. It does indicate to me they will test at halftime. Which is good for us. But anything that is good for us will not be released. And the point remains: all they need to do is test both teams' balls concurrently, and they can say nobody cheated. We're F'd no matter what.

If you saw his press conference he explicitly admitted to no wrongdoing of any kind. He said in no small way later exactly why he made the choice and what he believed would be the result. Face it the Patriots have proven again and again that the draft is far from the only way to build a great team. So you can see why he would believe it to have minimal impact.

So now the NFL is cheating?

Good point.

I'm still pissed at Krafts decision on how to handle. But this thread is about the disgusting handling of the league. I'll stick to that.

My understanding of the testing program they laid out at the onset was they would test at half time replacing the game balls with the backup balls which would be tested at the end of the game. They will also be marking all balls tested

http://operations.nfl.com/the-game/gameday-behind-the-scenes/nfl-game-ball-procedures/

part one every game
Two hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff, both teams will be required to bring 24 footballs (12 primary and 12 back-up) to the Officials’ Locker Room for inspection. Two Game Officials, designated by the Referee, will conduct the inspection and record the PSI measurement of each football. The League’s Security Representative will observe the inspection process. Primary game balls for each team will be numbered one through 12, and any game ball within the allowable range of 12.5 PSI to 13.5 PSI will be approved, and the PSI level will not be altered. Any game ball that is determined to be over 13.5 PSI or under 12.5 PSI will either be deflated or inflated to 13.0 PSI. The same procedure will be followed with respect to the back-up set of game balls for each team.

part 2 random games
At designated games, selected at random, the game balls used in the first half will be collected by the KBC at halftime, and the League’s Security Representative will escort the KBC with the footballs to the Officials’ Locker room. During halftime, each game ball for both teams will be inspected in the locker room by designated members of the officiating and security crews, and the PSI results will be measured and recorded. Once measured, those game balls will then be secured and removed from play.

For these randomly selected games only, the back-up footballs will be used for each team during the second half. Approximately three minutes prior to kickoff, the KBC along with a designated Game Official will bring the back-up set of game balls to the on-field replay station to be distributed to each club’s Ball Crew.

At the end of any randomly selected game, the KBC will return the footballs to the Officials’ Locker Room where all game balls from each team will be inspected and the results will be recorded.

All game ball information will be recorded on the Referee’s Report, which must be submitted to the League office by noon on the day following the game.
All gauges will be certified prior to each season by Wilson Sporting Goods. Each Referee will be provided with a primary and backup gauge. NFL Football Operations will maintain a backup supply as well. The same gauge will be used for pregame, halftime, and postgame testing.

The balls would need to be tested within a certain period of time. if you take them out and wait 20 minutes to test them in a warm room the PSI will return. so I assume the timing of the test would be as critical to the validity as anything else they claim.

The NFL can do whatever it feels it needs to do, but it will never succeed in distracting NE from its goal.

BB wins again.
