The Rock Instrumentals Thread

Since I mentioned both of the artists in my review above, I thought I would play an instrumental by each.

Song: Scandinavia
Artist: Van Morrison

Song: Mirage
Artist: Jean-Luc Ponty

Not necessarily an instrumental piece as there are vocals in it but this is hands down my favorite non-verbal song.

My God, it portrays the magnificent journey of life from birth to death with nothing but music with epic crescendos and supreme vocals showing the agony and ecstasy of this life without saying a word. And Rick Wright's ascending signature piano line for the song is just sublime and wholly heroic, building to a climax.

This band bore the amazing fruit that is the Trans Siberian Orchestra.

I've seen them 5 times on their annual Christmas tour and I've never seen a light and stage show like it.

A few more reviews coming your way:

johnlocke: The Great Gig In The Sky by Pink Floyd - HSWAGS - on an album filled with great music, this song still stands out

johnlocke: Mozart And Madness by Savatage - WLTA - I'm probably not the first to notice a similarity between Mannheim Steamroller and TSO

johnlocke: Black Star by Yngwie Malmsteen - WLTA - been a fan of Yngwie for a while; one of the first shredders I started listening to

johnlocke: The Endless River by Pink Floyd - no review, it's an hour of songs, still listening

johnlocke: Marooned by Pink Floyd - WLTA
