See, moose love the Pats too!
A few years ago I absolutely hated the idea of Peyton ever winning another SB.
He's now 2-2 in Super Bowls, 3-1 vs Brady in AFCCCGs and has a positive post-season record. This win tonight helped his legacy for sure and helped shake off some of the 'choker' label he's been stuck with. Yup, tonight he helped put distance between himself and someone like Dan Marino. But I honestly don't care much, because he's very clearly still behind Tom and Montana. And this fact doesn't seem to be a secret or 'Pats mentality' anymore.
As recently as 2014 the football world still had a massive hard-on for Peyton, to the point where a great number of fans and media personalities still believed Manning was the GOAT. They ignored logic and numbers to keep that dream alive.
Until last season. Brady winning last season really ended the argument for good as even clowns like Faulk began to come around. Some of my NE-hating friends even now admit that despite disliking Brady, you can't argue he's not the GOAT. The media seems to have adopted a similar tone, despite still loving Manning. For me, I've known Brady was GOAT 1a/1b with Montana for a while so it annoyed me how far some went to force Manning into that conversation. But after Brady's win last year and Manning's decline, it's very clear to most who the GOAT is.
So kudos to Manning for beating two #1 seeds. He didn't look very good but he didn't make many mistakes and did enough to not choke away games his D had on lockdown. He did his job. He's one of the best to ever play and I'm fine with him winning another SB because it simply doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things (aside from the annoying media orgasms to come).
I hate that twice Manning was carried by his D to SB wins, both times after beating the Pats and both times against terribly performing NFC opponents (missed opportunities for the Pats). But I'm not annoyed like I thought I would be. It isn't a few years ago anymore. Manning is an all-time great and should have won a few more than he has, and Brady still has a chance to get #5 before he's done.
I can live with that
