Looking at the Patriots - 2020

Not to cherry pick cuz there are other factors but I would say in the case of Jordan, Phil Jackson was a little important just like Bill was for Tom.

I'm not sure TB wins 6 SBs without becoming TFB at some point under the tutelage of Darth Hoodie.
Jordan never won anything before Phil.

Bill and Tom were the perfect storm of football

both would have been successful without each other, both were made better because they were with each other...

In another news, Sony Michel has been activated, and we may see his return soon

On @CoachVass podcast, former Pats DC Dean Pees said that while he was a Pats' coach ('04-'09) Bill Belichick spent only 45 minutes a week with the defense.
He spent most of his remaining classroom time showing Brady what defenses were doing against him.

Pees was a terrible DC...so was Patricia. :coffee:

Bill is the one that always says when the team wins its about the players. He also famously said that players win games and coaches lose them. He also called Brady the GOAT QB and also said many times that there was no QB he would rather have than Brady which is the highest praise coming from a coach who is always very measured with accolades.

This narrative of Brady/Bill was always going to be in play this season because Brady moved on. I don't think it is unfair. It is what happens in sports. We also have a rather large sample size of Bill without Brady going back to Cleveland and his time in NE so in my view the question was settled a long time especially when Brady helped turn around a 5-13 team in his first season. It is also why Bill has become an excuse making machine this season because he knows his legacy is on the line. The narrative is not going away and Brady picked the right team to have success for the foreseeable future while Bill is the middle of a complete rebuild. I think narrative only grows this season and next.

Another asinine, ridiculous post.
Bill made Cleveland a playoff contender.
He took over a terrible team in 2000.

Facts just get in your way.

Yeah was not one of the favorites, and I have never heard anything that BB was over trying to Make dummy Brady know what a defense is, lol I am sure a head coach and QB go through gameplans and talk about upcoming games and
what defenses will try and do, but I imagine this one not a one sided session. During games, I see Bill huddle up the defense several times a game. I cannot remember a time that Bill ever set with Brady going over what is going on in the game. Bill has always spent more with the defense and even said as much when he indicated that he relied on the QB (Brady) and the coach to handle things on the offensive side.

Patricia was far too conservative. It was as if he didn't trust his players so he would rarely put on a full blown pass rush. His read and react stuff is so old fashioned. BB is too conservative for me but at least BB is more middle road in that aspect.

Do you think Pees is lying? I mean, he was there, you know.

We saw him going over defenses on A Football Life.
Here's the podcast if you want to hear it for yourself.

I just said what I said. I mean who is holding Brady's hand now? Again head coaches and QB's going over the gameplan for game is the same on every team. Most of these meetings between the two were just from the two, so unless Dan pees had a hidden speaker in there not sure he had a great understanding of what they talked about, especially since Pees was not involved in the offensive gameplan at all. I am sure this is all in reaction to the media saying Brady made the patriots more than Bill BS, and Pees is standing up for his guy, but to make it out like Brady needed to be hand held in his time with the Patriots goes against anything Bill has ever said when he said that Brady had as much input into the offensive gameplan as any coach or player on the team. Early on? Of course, the entire time? Thats just silly. If Brady could not figure out how to read a defense by 2009, I doubt he would have stayed the QB there.

Only you will defend Brady when he doesn't even need to be defended. So Pees is lying now? God forbid it sounds like BB coached Brady.

I wasnt defending. Nor did I say BB didnt coach Brady. lol I said, I dont think BB had to hold Brady's hand his entire career here which is what this narrative is being made to be. Why in 2020 would it just suddenly come up that Bill coached brady. lol Oh because people are butt hurt that Brady is having success without Bill right now. Again this is the BS argument that was going to happen no matter who had the success this year. If Bill had the pats at 6-2 and Brady was being talked about being benched in Tampa, there would suddenly pop up some story about how Brady was very involved in putting his input into gameplans.

Probably hyperbole for sure. I truly doubt Bill spent that little time with any portion of the team especially the defense given that is Bill's side of the ball.
