The 2021 Draft- We Need This One

Shanahan
“We decided we needed a starting quarterback,” Shanahan said. “So we traded two 1s to get a starting quarterback. Hopefully, we end up picking the best one. But I know we’re going to get a starting quarterback with that. That’s a smart move to me. Not necessarily a smart move, but that’s the move you have to do and how much it costs to do these type of things.

Wow. Ok. JG feels like crap now.

BB calls after they draft their QB..."Hey Kyle and John, I'm offering our 2022 2nd for Jimmy G."

"Ok, done deal."

Pats still have 15 and 46 and a guy they like--> 3 starters for 2021. Seems better than using a ton of draft capital to trade up for a QB who may or may not pan out.
The Dolphins first sent shock waves across the NFL landscape by trading the No. 3 pick to the 49ers in exchange for the No. 12 pick this year, a first- and third-round pick in 2022 and a first-round pick in 2023.

The 9ers gave up 3 1st rounders and a 3rd to move up to #3.

Jimmy is basically Alex Smith in 2017.

I really think the Niners are taking Fields at 3. So the question becomes, do we trade up for either Lance or Jones?

If they are going to do it, this is the year to do it. The QB class next year is not supposed to be strong and the Patriots should be picking lower next year making it harder to trade up.

So, should they try to trade with the Bengals at #5 or the Lions at #7? If they don't do either, none of the QB's will fall below the Panthers or the Bronco's. It is worth the price if they really think one of those QB's is the franchise QB for the next 10 years.

I heard one rumor that would be a great idea .
Draft horn at 15. Trade Gilmore & harry for jimmy G. Harry would just be a throw in player. Then use a day 2 pick on 2nd tier QB.
I do wonder how Cam would feel about being a back up to Jimmy. I wonder if we release Cam if we do somehow trade for Jimmy.

If It came down to getting Jimmy and a couple of good WR and defensive prospects then I could be reasonably optimistic that 2021 could be much better than the abberation. That's what I've decided to call it from now on. Is it possible that Jimmy could stay healthy and maybe even feel more comfortable under Josh and Bill than he did in SF? Yes, it is possible.

Of course, there are the missed games to consider, but Jimmy has played some really high-level QB over the course of his career, which I could point out is far from over. That is more than Miami or New York have going into the season. Keep him patched up and keep a lid on the high-risk passes to carry the load himself and he could be very effective for us.

I think it would be pretty ironic if we got him back for a 2nd rounder. I think it is clear after Shanny II's comments that he is all done in San Francisco and will have that for extra motivation. I approve this idea as a potential Plan B.

Plan A -- land Jones, Fields or Lance
Plan B -- Jimmy G.
Plan C -- Davis Mills or possibly Trask
Plan D -- Cam and Stidham and hope for the best

Your plan A doesn't involve a trade up I'm assuming. If so, I agree 100%.
If no QB at 15 I'd try to trade 15 back into the later 1st and grab an extra 2nd or 3rd rnd pick as well. That would be my plan.

I can't imagine your coach saying he needs a QB and any of these 5 guys who have never played a down in the NFL will do fine.
JimmyG must really be down in dumps about now.
I also can't imagine BB trading much value for a guy when his coach thinks so little of him.

I don't understand the interest in JImmy G. vs a rookie top 5. Jimmy is being cast away from SF, after they traded for him and he was the QB that was in the SB for them. He seems not to be able to stay on the field.
To me that ship has sailed and I don't understand why we would want him back.

Quite astonishing comments from Shanahan. It's not only Jimmy who will be cheesed off at those comments, the other players must surely be hearing this at how their own coach is basically casting players aside like this, to the media, in a very public way. Can you ever imagine Bill doing this? Not in a million years.

JimmyG is good enough to go to a superbowl, so, obviously he's legit enough. It's the injury questions that are the issue...that and the trade capital.

I somewhat agree...but, it might depend on the draft and how it unfurls.

Because we have nothing at the position with Cam and Stidham. Jimmy is a known commodity who was in our system for almost 4 years. He is also a winner. His health is a huge concern but beggars can't be choosers right now. It is unbelievably hard to find a legit starter in this league. Hawg called last year an aberration. I truly hope so but the reality is without a decent QB, a middler season will be the norm.

Now, I would much rather trade up and try to get one of the top 5 this year other than Jones. I don't want him but the other 4 have potential to be solid starters or maybe even stars. If it is too costly to get one of them or if Bill/Josh really only see Lawrence as a first round grade than this is fine, spend #15 on the best defensive player. I hope the LB from Penn State is there (Parsons) as that would be a dream landing for us. But it is all moot if Cam is our starter so take our #2 pick and get Jimmy back. I agree with Hawg here. That is our best Plan B if we want to have a winning season this year.

Thats draft strategy hasn't worked in last few drafts. Only dugger has a chance to start this season. Jimmy G is a proven Game manager. Teams are just hoping these top 5 QBs turned into a good starter. You will be a game manager in BB system.

The Penn State linebacker has character issues...I doubt that BB is interested in him.
