Celtics

First the Bruins and now the Celtics, at least with the Sox you know what you're getting and them making the playoffs would be a win for this season (long way to go I know). I do not see this team winning 2 in a row against the Heat, never mind 4.

It's embarrassing when your team focuses on flopping and then outrage when the fouls aren't called. There was way too much ref whining from the C's, especially in the 2nd qtr. One team has playoff Jimmy, the other has 2 stars out scored by Vincent. The NBA is embracing soccer's attitude of flailing arms and collapsing to the floor with even incidental contact. It's becoming unwatchable.

To watch the C's bitch the entire 1st quarter, only to see Marcus Smart literally hip-check Kyle Lowry through the Spanish announcer's table for absolutely no reason whatsoever honestly made me laugh. Utter buffoonery.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.

Welcome to the 2022-2023 Celtics.

After giving him a 5 year contract, what are the chances that the Celtics will fire Mazzola???

About the same as the Celtics winning this series.

Better odds that they'll trade Tatum.

Pretty sure Joe Mazzulla will be an assist coach of the Houston Rockets next year. (Just a hunch)

form your lips to God's ears. The guy is clueless.

Also, and I've said this multiple times, I'm not sold on Tatum

If I were the Celtics and they lose this season, I would take a hard look at the next couple of drafts. If I find some takers, I'd trade Tatum, Brown, Smart, White, and Rob Williams and start fresh all over again. Tatum is NOT a top 5 player in the NBA. Let some other team take him. Could get a haul for him.

Oh and fire Mazzulla the minute the game is over. Too bad they paid him, suck it up losers.

I am not usually one to pull the "Joe Montana is the real GOAT because his team lost a round earlier than Tom Brady usually did" but I never felt like the C's could have beaten the Nuggets anyway. (Sure would like to find out, though!)

Different sport but the 2004 Red Sox took a 19-8 beatdown in game 3 of the ALCS before reeling off 8 straight wins. But that team (like the season before) had a lot of grit. Not a description I would apply to this Celtics team. Prove me wrong, boys. :celtics:

Nope. And it's typical of NBA teams in this position to just wither and die anyway.
the line we keep hearing is how this team is set up for long term success...I don't see it. It starts at the top, which means Brad Stevens. I fell out of love with him as a coach very quickly, and I'm not overly impressed with the moves he's made in the FO. He has no understanding of what it takes to build a winner at this level. Look at the teams that are successful- Miami, Denver, Milwaukee, Golden State, even the Lakers for starters. They all have one thing in common...offense from the 5 position. Brad has put together a "positionless" team consisting almost exclusively of wing players. You need somebody that can dominate in the low post in the playoffs to open up the arc for 3 point shooters. Who do the Celtics currently have on their roster that can do that? I'm all for trading either of the J's for an offensive big. In addition to that, give Mazulla and Brad their walking papers and get somebody in the FO from one of the teams mentioned previously. Of course, they won't do this and will likely draft another wing. A lot of people didn't like Ainge, but he understood winning and was savvy enough to bring in Garnett and Allen. When your opponent doesn't respect your low post game it allows them to run you off the 3 point line, which is exactly what we're seeing now.

On paper, this is definitely a team that can and should contend for a title based on their depth alone. But you are right, the philosophy is to just find an open shooter somewhere on the perimeter. Why is Al Horford ALWAYS sitting behind the arc? Imagine having two 6' 9' guys to drop it into once in a while - or to dominate on the offensive boards and kick it back out?

I liked Ainge. My only complaint is his mismanagement of his stockpile of picks. He held on to too many for too long but overall, the personnel he did draft can't really be panned as 4 of them are starters and 3 have received major accolades.

What sucks is that I can't help but feel that if Udoka was here, the Celtics would be in the driver's seat in this series. Not giving him a pass for any potentially serious transgressions, but it is unfortunate to get this close and see it unravel.

Agreed. Last year they were short handed in the backcourt. This year, short handed at the coaching position.

I don't disagree, but in fairness, up until that turnaround there wasn't a ton of reason to think the '04 Sox were the gutty, gritty team they turned out to be. They were, however, able to play loose AF, which can be critical to getting an opportunity to show grit.

That said...this team appears to be soft even by NBA standards. The flops and playacting, the outrage, the wrong people challenging the wrong people. Seriously, Grant Williams being part of your playoff rotation is fine, but he shouldn't have been in there in the 4th, and certainly shouldn't have been the one to get into a dick measuring contest with Butler. It seems like they're completely reactive in terms of when they challenge opponents psychologically. For the greats, it's a science, and seeds are planted months and years prior to when you need them to bear fruit.

I'm just glad they're getting Gallinari back for the finals! :coffee:

I fully expect the Heat to finish them off tonight and that this is Mazzulas last game coaching this team.
i hope they fire him. But don't be surprised. If they just bring in an experienced former head coach as an assistant. And call it a day.
