It's Mayo

He's a super guy. Can he take the reins as HC? That is the question.
Agreed. No one knows the answer to this question, no need to be negative. The surrounding cast and GM are big issues but Mayo should be given a chance to prove himself. Those who know him are saying only positive things.

An argument for Steve B staying is to prove himself as a DC without being under his father's shadow. Presumably, he worked well with Mayo and now they both get titles and the good defense can continue.

I've seen the argument that with a young defensive HC, you want a former HC as OC, and they have that with BoB, plus he is under contract.

Mayo becomes the youngest HC in the league. If he is as brilliant as many are saying, the Pats could be good at the position for a very long time. Say what you will about the Steelers, but they have done very well by committing at HC for the long term and more teams would be smart to do that.

Just need to revamp the scouting here. I've read that it wasn't all the scouting being an issue, but BB would override their recommendations. That could just be propaganda though.

I also slightly disagree with those that call Kraft cheap. The Pats set a record in 2021 with the $160 million spend. The problem was so many of those choices weren't good ones.

Nothing says due diligence, like interviewing nobody and then hiring from within. Biggest time in the franchise for 25 years. They just say, meh we good, Mayo is the coach.

Both the Red Sox and the Pats are doing some highly questionable things that make you question ownership and rightfully so. Rudderless ship.

Patriots are on track to be 29th in real cash spending next year, their highest in the last 5 years. So there's that.

This is a major problem and Bill alluded to it. They don't see to do much right anymore really and now they have to find a GM? Ass backwards because this isn't how it is done. GM first, then they have a big say in who they want as a coach. At this point, give Mayo full control ala BB because what GM would say, yeah you picked my coach for me? Right on where do I sign.

yeah agree. now as fans we get to sit back and watch. it will either get worse or better...now we wait :)

Im sure the GM is already decided also

He did more than allude to it. He went up to a microphone and just said it.
That's why I said Wolf's as good as anyone when it comes to GM. They're going to be dumpster diving anyway. Patriots approach to free agency is to by a bunch of scratch tickets and cross their fingers.

This.

In order to keep Mayo last year, that new contract guaranteed him the HC position. I'd be very surprised if they didn't already have a plan for GM that was already good with Mayo.

I think Pats will have to "make a splash" in FA to show the fans they are serious. they also really need to do much better to show that moving on from BB was the right thing to do. hell, they will more likely overdue it in trying to insure more success next season.

The Clown mentioned Steve B. staying as DC... interesting thought and not against it, just think he'd likely follow Dad to next team.
BoB as OC? who knows. does it matter much. any form of consistency might be better, and can we get an O-Line coach (or let the one we have do his job)
Maybe Steve B. sees it as an opportunity to break away from Dad and see what he can do as his own man.

I've seen a lot of people out there saying some of this stuff from Curran was fed directly from Mayo and that pissed BB off. If thats the case, then Mayo is a snake and f all that noise. I doubt Mayo has even put together a practice schedule on his own, travel plans, uniform decisions not to mention final say on gameplans. I don't think he has ever even been given the reins to sit there with one timeout and 30 seconds left and you are on your own 40 and need a TD. What calls you doing to use? When you using that timeout?

Went from the most decorated and historic coach with 6 titles as a head coach to the still wet behind the ears assistant coach.

Probably.

That was a MIGHTY SHIITY way to do Bill this last year. Shows tremendous weakness on the part of the Krafts to have taken the easy way out and cut Bill's legs off for a year without telling him. Better owners would have taken the medicine that went with the decision rather than create a secret walking dead horse.

If in fact they did this last year as the Mayo contract now makes it seem.

I got excited for a moment... and then I realized it was probably either Jalen Mills of Miles Bryant who said this.
I also thought of this. Might help retain some of the current FA. Thats not why you hire Mayo. And you are right, it's probably Mills. Yay.
