I need to understand this. I’m off to the Internet.

Edit: water is a heat sink. Makes sense. This crossed my mind, but it seemed impossible that the water as heat sink would be more efficient than the little amount of flame that would typically melt the plastic. But that’s why I’m not a physics major.
