I mean, seriously, when was the last SUCCESSFUL WR to come out of UF?
Darrell Jackson (SEA) is probably the best of the UF receivers, followed by Ike Hilliard.
Others include Reidel Anthony, Jacquez Green, Chris Doering, Willie Jackson, Travis Taylor, and Taylor Jacobs.
Anthony and Green had decent careers for a short while.
Travis Taylor was supposed to be the exception to the "system WR" knock against UF receivers. Total bust.
Gaffney was the next UF reciever that was supposed to break the mold.
Caldwell, who was drafted the same year as Gaffney, was also supposed to be "different."
Both had okay numbers in HOU and SD respectively, but neither showed the gamebreaking ability they were supposed to have.
Jacobs was one of the last of Spurrier's recruits before he left UF, and he (as with Taylor, Gaffney, and Caldwell before him) was supposed to be different than others, and Spurrier drafted him for the Skins. He lasted only 3 yrs in Washington, and has a grand total of 315 career yards.
Jackson wasn't recruited by Spurrier....he was a Zook guy. Zook was supposed to be a great recruiter, but he sucks as a gameday coach. Will Jackson be different than the Spurrier WRs? That remains to be seen.
Little bro Caldwell is also a Zook guy, but he's slotted to be the playmaker to replace Jackson in Meyer's offense this year. So far, he's got 21 catches for 188 yards, and 3 TDs on the year. He's been a non-factor in the rushing game. Clearly, we're gonna have to wait for a full recruiting cycle to see what Meyer can do at UF.
