Peyton Manning's NFL swan song hasn't reached its final note. First there were the weeks of intense rumors and debate about Manning's future. Then, multiple retirement ceremonies, first one with the Broncos and then one with the Colts.

We're not done yet though! There's still the matter of which franchise with whom Manning will choose to retire. He played 14 seasons with the Colts, establishing a Hall of Fame legacy well before a second stage of his career.

So Manning could easily sign a one-day contract with the Colts to retire as a member of Indy. And ultimately, according to a report from Dave Furst of WRTV in Indy, he decided not to, going out as a member of the Broncos.

There's certainly some nuance here.

It's not like Manning spit on someone's grave in Indy or just can't stand the way the Colts ran him off and is refusing to go back. He had a retirement ceremony in Indy and got his jersey number retired.

He's either the greatest Colts player of all time or part of some really heated argument involving Johnny Unitas for the honor.

Maybe it's as simple as Manning believing the best way to walk away is not draw too much attention to yourself. He got the ceremonies and he won a Super Bowl in his final game. He's probably content with the way things are going.

Sorry, Jim Irsay, but Peyton is retiring a Bronco. (USATSI)

didn't he retire before being released? so he can't sign the one day deal with Indy without costing Denver money forcing them to cut him.

I give Peyton credit for this one.

First off Irsay is a horses ass and I am sure Manning is aware of said fact.

Secondly the "one-day contract" thing is meaningless.

He played his last game in Denver and won the Big Game (r) why should he pretend to retire a Colt.

Manninhgh had a better career in Denver for 4 seasons and was treated with class by Elway unlike the slime ball Irsay. Why on earth would he retire a Colt?

I think this is on Irsay trying to keep Colts fans interested for the future, since after all, they bandwagonned pretty hard for him the past few years in Denver.

Irsay basically told the fans of Indy that he did not care about the future when he re-signed Frick and Frack because he was too pepped up on pills to give a care anymore. Really landing Manninghg has been the only highlight of his career and he was upstaged by Bill and Brady for a decade a half ...

Too be fair Kraft did have Willie Mac sign a 1 day contract . To retire a patriot after he was inducted into the pats HOF

Not to change the subject, but speaking of Irsay, he's giving Marvin Harrison his bust and a speech at his HOF induction.

That should be must-watch TV.

I hope someone yells "IT'S A BUST!" and Irsay panics, drops it, tries to run, trips, and smacks his face on the floor. I'd ROFL

Yeah, that's sad but true.

The only person in Indy that I feel sorry for is Luck. He's screwed having Irsay and then Grigson back. He's a likable kid that I wish played for a team more deserving.

I feel bad for all their players. #1 because someone in their organization thinks it's ok to frame them for "figuring out" the Pats deflated balls. That's pure evil to manipulate innocent people like that for your own BS.

I'm thinking there is a couple of Denver fans pretending to be Patriot fans! IMO!
