Posted this in a broadcasting group I’m in, my year in my career field that was interesting to say the least.

For me, it was an interesting year. I started out as a master control operator who wondered if my job was safe (it wasn’t) while transitioning to production. I moved to production but didn’t really want to direct. I was already filling in with production and did most everything but direct.

Then when a coworker (weekend director) got sick in spring and was out a few weeks, I knew I had to learn to direct. Two months later we alternated weekend directing until he left in October. I also directed (technically and non technically directing) single anchor week day lates. I just did my first two anchor show. It is weird to say I went from I never want to direct to directing.

I also continue to shoot and edit news and sports when needed and had a news story get 10k + views in two days.

Still not sure what my future holds in the current department or industry but nice to enjoy the ride again and not go to work not caring about the product like my previous work.

I also want to thank my previous boss for never giving me the opportunity to be a director because I didn’t have the experience (twice actually). I now get paid more, have better benefits, and more skills in almost fours years where I am currently then in 17.5 where I was. Interestingly the people who got director jobs over me (and one who was hired to replace one) are no longer in the business.
