I bought one of those PXG gen 5 drivers they have been advertising relentlessly and just used it at range for the first time yesterday. I really like it! I'm not good enough to get into the minutiae of a golf club, I just know this thing hit the ball suprisingly father then my prev driver - a used Cobra Radspeed Xb - that I had picked up out of the used club bin a year ago
On the Gen 5 I got the "more forgiving" model, and also I did some sizing based on my arm measurement to the floor (crease of wrist to floor) and according to all the info I found, despite being 6' tall my 34" measurement to the floor indicated a 1/4" shorter club. never quite felt comfortable with the used driver, so for the $299 sales price i figure "what the hell" and and got the PXG in 1/4" shorter lenght. I have to say, I think the sizing is better and except for one wiff (totally swung over the ball, missing it completely, then acting like I meant that as a practice swing) i was crushing it (for me). was worried shorter would mean topping it constantly but nope, worked great.
I had made a comment earlier in this thread on how it looked like Tony Finau was using kids clubs.... guess his long arms offset his height, and he sure seems to do well.
Taking our middle son to the PXG retail location in Troy MI on Thursday afternoon. I can't get my driver out of his bag so with the big sale going on (and the endorsement on here) we decided to get him one. I am more than a little curious how this 60 minute fitting process is going to work for him. He has always used my hand me downs until last year when my clubs just started leaving with him when he golfed with his friends. His swing has settled in nicely and he hits my R9 tp 30-40 yards beyond me these days. The day is coming when I lose over 18 holes (has happened over 9 already).
