We ain't winning the Superbowl.

You mods are way more tolerant than me. I'd have assclowned him a long time ago. Judging by dchester's comments, it's on the way.

I won't address the comments about odds, as they're written by someone who probably has a personality disorder.

He's definitely odd (coffee).

Given that this is directed at OPT, it might be the funniest thing I've ever read on this board.

I do! Plus, it's hilarious that he's criticizing you since you likely have the most analytical mind and thought processes of not only anyone here on the planet but....pretty much anywhere.

I get a kick out of nobodies out of nowhere taking really intelligent people to task. It always ends badly for them.

why dont wait and see if I'm wrong. Its a simple challenge

Why would we do that? You've proclaimed the impossibility of the Patriots' participation in it because of some ludicrous process of odds that you've deduced. You've continued to proclaim how right you are and how everyone else who has actually calculated the chances of the Pats going to the SB is basically an idiot, wrong, and lacking in comprehension.

It's way more fun to just make fun of you.

For someone who likes to point out that he thinks other poster's "reading comprehension is poor" you seem to have completely missed the point of what I have actually said.

Go back and re-read my posts.

Go on, I'll wait.

Back so soon?

My you're a quick reader.

OK, then you'll note that no where did I say anything about the odds of the Patriots being in the SB.

I was simply pointing out your claim that the odds for all teams to be in the SB is of the order of "one in a million" is mathematically impossible.

I make no claim as to which teams will be in the SB, simply that the probability for the 16 teams in the AFC, as well as the probability for all 16 teams in the NFC, MUST sum to 1.

I base this statement not on 25 odd years of staring at a TV for a few hours on Sunday, Monday, the odd Saturday, and now Thursdays, but on this little thing called education.

A fascinating little concept, something you might want to inquire about at your local kindergarten.

So there is no need to "wait to see if you're wrong" since on the topic of my point, you are.

all you are saying is you believe everything you are told. I explained there are too many variables. 1 in 32 is bull----.

if you are so educated and know more than me,why are you still hoping the Patriots get to the super bowl?

Have you not figured out what OPT does for a living yet?

Because if not, BWAHAHAHAHAAAA

Would the probability of 16 AFC teams and 16 nfc teams equal 2 since you say to be in it, not win it? As in two participants?

The sum of 1(AFC)+ 1(NFL)

My bad, I wasn't clear.

The better way to have said it is as follows.

"Since one team from each conference must be in the SB, the sum of the probability to be in the SB, for all the teams in any given conference, must be 1."

The unstated assumption is that everyone knows what a probability of 1 means.

To convert the decimal probability to a % value, one simply multiplies by 100 . So a probability of 1 simply means 100%.

Of course, it should be intuitively obvious to the casual observer, that if one considers the % chance for any given AFC team to reach the SB, that if that team's chances increases, at least one teams chances (or some combination of teams) must decrease.

Apparently certain posters cannot be considered "casual observers" :coffee:

Based on this post, I think it's time for a poll.

:)

It may be that NE doesn't make it to the SB, or that if they do make it, they won't win, but you cannot conclusively 'know' either at this time, especially when based upon your faulty premise and calculations.
