Week 10, 2020, Pats vs Ravens

Tough one coming up Sunday night. Turnovers could be key.
Ravens are 7 point favorites.

The Ravens are touchdown favorites over the host New England Patriots ahead of their game Sunday night, according to Las Vegas sportsbooks.

After a 24-10 road win Sunday over the Indianapolis Colts, the Ravens (6-2) are favored by seven points over New England (3-5). The Patriots ended a four-game losing streak Monday night with a narrow 30-27 victory over the Joe Flacco-led and still-winless New York Jets.

The Ravens are undefeated in road games this season, while New England has been uneven at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots opened the season with a 21-11 win over the Miami Dolphins before routing the Las Vegas Raiders two weeks later, 36-20, in Foxborough, Massachusetts. But they lost to the visiting Denver Broncos, 18-12, and San Francisco 49ers, 33-6, last month.

Sunday’s game will mark the second matchup between former NFL Most Valuable Players Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson, but their first as starters. In October 2018, Newton (21-for-29 for 219 yards and three total touchdowns) outdueled Flacco (22-for-39 for 192 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions) as the Carolina Panthers rolled to a 36-21 win.

Jackson is 11-3-1 against the spread in road games as a starter, according to CBS Sports. The Ravens have won their past 10 regular-season games when favored by six or more points, while New England is 0-3 this season as an underdog.

The Patriots lead the all-time series 10-4, but the Ravens ended a three-game losing streak last year with a 37-20 home win in prime time over then-undefeated New England. The Ravens have won twice on the road in the series, but never in the regular season.

The over/under for Sunday’s game is 41½ points.

Wow, what a win! Pleasantly surprised to see this waking up this morning!

Our running game is legit. Looks very good. I loved one play late in the 2nd quarter which showed the athleticism of Isiah Wynn. His speed at getting to the edge toward the sideline and blocked his man and allowed Harris to race through. Fantastic stuff and was rightly highlighted by Collinsworth.

The big story for me this season and what will make or break the team is the O Line. When everyone is fit and healthy, they are one of the best in the NFL. Collinsworth talked about it when he watched tape prior to the game, how he couldn't believe how precise they are on run plays. They look extremely well-coached and in a post-Dante world, that's some compliment. If they can stay playing like this, we have a shot to make the playoffs and they will give us a decent shot to won each week.

One concern, the blocking on the PATs. That needs to be looked at, the Ravens were on top of Folk every kick.

It's 3:45 am and I just finished watching the game I recorded tonight.

What a great win over the often much hyped and favored Ravens.

Yeah, screw it, I'm staying up.
🙂

That was a decent game called by the officials. They called out the niggly hits, leading with the helmets, late hits, correctly. I hate seeing teams get away with those and they normally do.

Skura is a terrible center.

His off target centering skillz and barely adequate blocking were major contributors to a Pats victory.
Fuck yeah!

Pats made the Ratbirds look toothless. Awesome.

We've seen signs this year the Ravens aren't as good as they were last year and last night the Pats put an exclamation point on it.
Pouring rain with gale strength wind this wasn't a game for passing except in rare lulls. Give our coaches credit for taking advantage of those lulls. Jacoby's HS coach is so proud!
This Ravens team is soft and couldn't stand up to the raw diesel power the Patriots delivered last night. They had no answers when they were punched in the mouth.
The Ravens played with 9 and sometimes 10 men on the LOS with no S back and still couldn't stop the Pats' run game. Our OL may actually be better than advertised.
Our D came through, too. BB changed it up for the Ravens going with pretty much a straight 3-4. At LB we saw Wino, Phillips, Hall and Simon with Dugger as the nickel. Nothing we've seen this year has worked as well at stopping the run. Wino did his job and benefited - his best game of the year, imo. The DL had little trouble with the Ravens' OL - funny how getting healthier makes a difference. Our DBs had a good bounce back game, too. JC Jackson is my Mr. Dependable. No way BB will pay Gilmore, as great as he's been, $15M to play next year.
I am telling ya, Meyers is one of those players like Troy Brown, he just makes plays.

Yes, he does. He's earning his successor-to-JE11 role with every catch and throw he makes.
The New England Swiss Army Knives

That pertains to coaching & to the coaches' play calls too. As Harbaugh said, it's still a BB coached team.
  • a straight 3-4 defense with Dugger at nickel?
  • a TD throw from WR Jacoby to a RB Burkhead during a lull in the hurricane?
  • a running game that had great success running right into their faces? These are the Ravens we're talking about here!
  • a patient but relentless attack that waited for the Ravens to make mistakes, and they made plenty - penalties too many to count, Skura, Lamar's int., and finally the Ravens showed no heart with a terrible last series at the end. Cya, Lamar. You were great last year but the book is out on stopping your running and your arm just doesn't cut it in this league. Harbaugh has work to do.

Game changers
Trick plays
Turnovers
Stupid penalties by Balt.
Toughness
Ball security.
The torrential downpour on the Ravens last possession and 10 mins later it cleared like magic.

It was one of the most exciting/boring games I've ever watched. Old school - it's what we are.

It is always so satisfying beating a Harbaugh team. LOL. Nice team win in the pouring rain. IMO the game was not as close as the score indicated. We punched them in the mouth all night.

Sometimes a good player whose skills fit what the team can do is more important to have than a better player whose skills don't fit what the team can do. This is Newton vs. TB
