CHAD OCHOCINCO
I'LL PAY ANYTHING TO WEAR
#85 ON THE PATRIOTS

He's been traded to a new team ... but Chad Ochocinco DOES NOT want a new jersey number -- and sources close to the NFL star tell TMZ .. he's willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to sport #85 for the New England Patriots this season.

Problem is .... the number currently belongs to Patriots STUD tight end Aaron Hernandez -- who rocked #85 in 2010 ... when he DOMINATED all season long.

We're told Ochocinco -- who CHANGED HIS LAST NAME to match his jersey number a few years ago -- wants to PAY Hernandez to give up the digits ... and sources say Chad feels "no number is too high."

FYI -- jersey numbers don't come cheap -- it cost Clinton Portis a cool $18k to buy the #26 from a teammate when he was traded to the Washington Redskins a few years ago.

What do you think a fare price would be for both involved?

Maybe we'll see Ahern with a full gold grill this year ROFL

I think it would be cool if Hernandez just gave it to him. Welcome the guy to the team, set the tone of " Pats unselfishness". Or maybe in return for a donation to one of Myra Kraft's favorite charities.
That said, I know those scenarios aren't likely and I don't begrudge him whatever he does get.

From picture research Aaron wore #15 in high school and #81 in college. Both of those are currently available. I thnk some other dude had #81 here recently so it wasn't available to Aaron; he'll probably go back to that number.

He should make him start every interview with,

"Hi I'm Aaron Hernandez's teammate Chad Johnson" !

Hernandez will make a killing in trademarking the phrase

If I remember correctly, the #15 is not available to tight ends in the NFL.

**edit**

Guess I was wrong -

1-9 Quarterbacks and Kickers
10-19 Quarterbacks, Receivers, Tight Ends, and Kickers
20-49 Running Backs and Defensive Backs
50-59 Centers and Linebackers
60-79 Defensive Linemen and Offensive Linemen
80-89 Receivers and Tight Ends (or 40-49 if those ranges are taken)
90-99 Defensive Linemen and Linebackers

Jeremy Ross is #81.

As long as Moss isn't coming back #81 might be the magic #

I'm guessing it will be something like that.

$25K, the locker next to Haynesworth, plus a paid guest spot on Ocho's next reality show..

If I were Chad I would indoctrinate a new era by reverting back to "Johnson" and taking a completely new number. Nothing would be a better symbol of a "new beginning" and the name change would signify that we're getting "the football player" not the character that's been depicted on the TOcho Show. Fresh starts, baby.

That was what I was hoping for as well.

He legally changed Johnson to Ochocinco several years back, so it's not just a matter of saying I'm Chad Johnson again. It would be a process taking a bit of time to get his name changed back legally.

I hope he does get the number. I've heard rumors that Aaron is a bit of a punk and somewhat self-centered, so I'm not so sure this will be an easy task.

Does the player control the number or does the team? Does Hernandez have the right to sell his number? Seems to me that teams would be in charge of who wears what number and if BB wants Ocho to have number 85, he does.

I'm aware of this. But he could still just say, "I'm changing back to Johnson" and that would be the end of it. The Pats would probably be fine having him play in a "Johnson" jersey even if it hadn't been formally approved yet.

yeah, he did it once so I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to legally change his name again - obviously he's familiar with the process

I'm not sure the NFL would be ok with that.
