Yeah, it was just stupid of him to say. I don't think Zo is a racist, I think he's just dumb sometimes. But I could be wrong. I don't know the man personally obviously.I'm not. Zolak was harping on about Cam listening to "Rap" music in between reps. It was a bad look, he's never had a go at other players listening to "music". He knew he fucked up as he apologised and spoke directly to Newton about it. When you look at Zo's history, someone pulled up his tweets from 2011 where he was having bizarre rants at Newton for whatever reason and then you take his comments on Russell Wilson as being "the worst starting quarterback in the NFL" and "he isn't even a quarterback" in 2012.
It's not a good look.
It's crazy how the race thing was never an issue until it was our QB though. We've had so many beloved African American players on this team in our history and I've never heard a peep about race. But when it's the QB I guess it's different because he's the face of the franchise? I admit that I was wary to criticize Cam for fear of being called a racist because so many people would jump to that conclusion. (Not here, I'm saying the fandom in general) I just thought he sucked on the field and I always thought he was arrogant and cocky, and that's not the Patriot way. (And I admit having heard reports from other fans and his teammates it would seem he was able to keep most of that in check while he was here, so I was wrong about the arrogant and cocky part.)
If you asked me to name which player in the history of the franchise has most epitomized what it means to be a Patriot I'd say it's Matthew Slater. The man is a wonderful player and an even better person and I admire him greatly. His work in the community is second to none, and I think the vast majority of Patriots fans would say the same thing. He is someone I see as a role model.
I'm just curious if any of my Caucasian brothers and sisters here felt the same way. I just long for the day when none of that garbage matters. All I can do is be the change I want to see in the world and, like Dr. King said, Judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
