Are we headed for a QB controversy?

Is it too soon to talk about a 1st round pick for Zappe once Jones is healthy?
I know you're joking, because Zappe would probably currently get you a 5th, Maybe a 4th rounder. We've seen it over and over, a player we think is good enough for a 1st rounder, ends up getting you a 5th, 4th rounder. Now, if Jones is still on the team, and the Patriots win the championship with Zappe as the quarterback,
Zappe would probably get you a 3rd rounder.

i will now start calling my round, little cats "nuggety"...❤ their breed standard is a "cobby" body(Exotic Shorthair). i never thought i'd love ANY word more than that one to describe them. but @Roberto71 has done it!!

I thought it was a very American term? We’d use it in Rugby a lot for any smaller bit stocky, hardy player. One such player who used to play for Ireland was nicknamed Nugget.

Actually funny you should say that we thought about naming our Assuie Nugget lol.

it may be. i've never heard it used that way though. i adore it!!!

I know this much. If Zappe is the quarterback for the Patriots Monday Night, and the Patriots beat the Bears in Foxboro, the local and international news (sports and otherwise) will be saying the Patriots starting quarterback is Zappe, he is great enough to win, and Then, there will be a national controversy about the Patriots starting quarterback job. Me, I don't care. Just keep winning, Patriots, no matter who the qb is.
Who do you want?

JimmyG got them a 2nd after 1 1/2 good games, and looking horrible in pre-season games before that. Zappe has looked good for 2+ games, so I'm thinking 5 first rounders.

Totally guessing....

Mac is back this week against the Bears. He was close enough last week to make the trip. If this is the case, Belichick gets to see Mac in the evolved offense we have watched Zappe do well in against increasingly difficult opponents (Bears/Colts/Jets). Then the bye week. 2-1 or 3-0 and Mac performs well he continues with Mac. If Mac performs poorly or even just not as well as the Zapster and the "controversy" gets extended. Easy peasy. :lecture:

Now watch Mac never start another game for the Patriots. :coffee:

EDIT: (Bears/Colts/Bye/Jets)

The question is who would be in the market for a young QB. Out of the recent teams that drafted QBs high, you have maybe Houston, Chicago or SF, maybe GB. Then a few teams where we don't really know how they feel about their QB (or will soon) like Seattle, Giants (who are surprising so far, but don't look likely to hold up), Falcons, Lions, and Titans.

As far as the likely comp, I would suspect it would be pretty high, because the typical things that depress the value aren't there. There's no cap pressure to trade either one of them - in fact, short of a split in the locker room you could argue that the Patriots' best path is to keep both - and they're both on rookie contracts, so easy for another team to absorb even if you have a more expensive QB as a bridge.

To get the best value for one of them, you trade before the deadline or after the draft. Teams wildly overvalue their picks while they're swooning over individual prospects in March and April.

Sounds like Mac wasn't even cleared to play Sunday, so seems like he might be a bit farther off than that. But certainly he has the potential to be back for Chicago.

Here's how it will go down: Zappe gets hurt with a 2 score lead and 115 QBR in the 4th quarter of the Chicago game, and is out for 4-6 weeks. Mac sweeps the Jets and Colts, and plays well in a close loss to the Vikings that he has a chance to win at the end. Both are 100% and ready to go for the 12/1 Bills game, and the media implodes.

Probably the one who gives the Patriots the better chance to win. Against the Bears, I'd have Mac Jones start, if he's healthy. If he's not 100%, I'd take another chance with Zappe, and starts Jones the rest of the season. But, we'll see. I don't want one over the other.
