It's Mayo

Would the Krafts really be that petty that they wouldn't allow Steve to remain?

The flip side is would Steve want to stay if he feels his dad was hard done by? I think the best thing for his coaching career would be to go out on his own away from Dad. The charge of nepotism will follow him around constantly if he remains with Bill.
I don't think so. Didn't seem to matter with Brian Schottenheimer or Kyle Shanahan. There are probably others I'm missing as well

The Moras come to mind.

Jim Junior in Atlanta, I think.

Jim Senior in Indy.

Edit: But they coached together in New Orleans

This is the problem; now there are retaliation stories coming out in response to the Kraft anti-BB stories being put out.

All of this is unfair on Mayo who could and will probably find himself in the middle of all this, caught in the crosshairs and he has;t even coached a game yet.

I mean, let's not pretend he was just an innocent bystander in all this - but yes, it will cause a problem and is unfair.

And, just to wrap this up, one other thing worth noting is that Belichick’s sons, defensive play-caller and linebackers coach Steve, and safeties coach Brian, have both already been offered the opportunity to return to the team for 2024. Mayo and the elder son (Steve) have grown close as they’ve collaborated to run the Patriots' defense the past five years.

If true (it's Bert Breer), there's always the possibility that this was only leaked as damage control. "Look how magnanimous the Krafts are. Even after they fired his dad!"

So if they leave, they're seen as ungrateful. I don't know what will happen in this regard, tough to say before the head coaching stuff has shaken out throughout the league - but considering the Franconaing of Belichick by the Krafts, I'm not putting this possibility to the side, until I see differently.

That would be fascinating if both sons stay. I can see Mayo wanting Stevie to say. He was calling the defensive plays on the only unit on the team that performed at a high level.

Even if he was absolutely a bystander, it's not unfair. All we've heard about for 2+ years is how business savvy he is. A business savvy person would know that all the drama and swirling stories will come, and that he will be in the center of it, pushed and pulled from both sides.

If they leave, it's almost certainly to follow their old man. So why would you think that would be viewed as being ungrateful to anyone?
