Mayo Press Conference 1/17/2024

There is a lot of revisionist history behind a statement like this. Yes, Brady did go to Tampa and win a SB. But let's not pretend that the 2020 Patriots had a real chance of winning the SB had he stayed. Had Brady stayed, his contract for that year would have eaten up all of their available cap space on an already average roster.

But then again, it's easier if we all just blame Bill Buckner, right?
Brady left. If not for TB, the Doofins.

Garrett is “smart”. Ivy college even.

My point is that they're both marionettes with strings.
Maybe. We don't know. He hasn't coached yet. Also, I'm not convinced that Mayo is a Kraft puppet. They could very well be using each other for their own aims. Who's to say Mayo has two bad years here, leaks to the media how cheap the Krafts are, trying to get a better long-term job. Especially with his media pals helping him out?

Overnight????? We won 4 games this season. That train left the station months ago.

Also, I'm getting a gif of that scene to post in the "seen the movie 7 times" thread. Classic.
Relatively speaking, seems very fast. Thus, "OVERNIGHT IT SEEMS"

Cheers, :toast:

While I didn't love the presser overall, feeling that Kraft talked (babbled) too long, Jerod does impress me as an intellect and leader. His
ability to speak off the cuff and still make sense is rare, yet I've seen him better than he was yesterday. He'll be fine.

Mayo is about 3 times smarter than Bob and he isn't going to be his puppet. I think you've hit on an excellent point in that he knows how
Kraft thinks and he is far more likely to manipulate him through the press, if necessary, than the other way around. Bob and his evil henchman
Jonny will get the message to let him coach or else their image will suffer and so will the brand.

We don't know much about what kind of team we'll be in 2024 yet, but Jerod's statement about getting a QB with the 3rd pick--- "figure it out" was
an enormous relief to me. That was my number one takeaway. This is the year to get the right guy to build around for real and these chances
chances don't come around often. He's not going to screw around to try to impress people.

I see right through you, Mazz.

I'm not engaging in yet another thinly veiled TB vs BB debate.
Lucky me to have missed it. After the season ended I unignored all the people I thought diminished my pleasure on this site and vowed to be more patient with folks. But in the BB HC thread thread I'd had enough of her. She's the ex that you keep thinking that maybe we can still be friends, but after listening to her awhile you remember why you need to avoid her.

Jon is pulling the strings, not Babooshka

You are far more impressed with him so far than I am. I won't be relieved until I see him accomplish the multitude of things on his plate.

I don't think Mayo is a Kraft puppet, but not even conducting a thorough search was negligence by the Krafts which will perpetuate that label. I like Mayo and want him to succeed, but I'm skeptical. In my mind, until I see fresh (non-recycled former staffers) faces in the coaches rooms and some philosophical changes, this was a mistake.

I agree with every word of your post. I like Mayo too and agree, we have to get the QB.

Well BoB is gone, so there will be a different OC, be interesting to see if it is Josh, or some new blood...

The cynic in me had me thinking if this was too cryptic. He said, "We’re gonna draft the best player for a position that’s very important. You put the pieces together.”

I really hope it’s someone new. Back when Josh left I really wanted us to get Joe Brady who has now been the OC for Buffalo since they’ve gone on their six game win streak. I just love the way he calls games. And Josh Allen has looked so much better in his style of offense. Hopefully we can get someone in his mold.

Yup. Don't recycle McDaniels. The game has evolved and the magic we had for 20 years is a dry well. If Mayo tries to build his own thing and fails, so be it. We deserve something new after the past few years, and Mayo deserves a shot at doing it his way.
