Jacoby Brissett, Patriots agree to one-year, $8M contract

I like Jacoby. Hopefully he will be the bridge we need to a young quarterback. Can't forget him playing with an injured thumb during Brady's suspension after Jimmy G tapped out.

I think this is actually a better move than signing one of the big name guys for 40-45 million because there is no doubt we will be
drafting the QB of the future in less than two months and that is where the focus needs to be. Get the right guy and support him
in smart and strategic ways so by the time he is ready to take the reins he is well protected and has a fully functional offense made up
of talented NFL-caliber players.

Well.....we can better accomplish that by paying Jacoby Brissett 8 million, and committing to him for only one year, than if we did
what Atlanta did.

We aren't winning a Super Bowl with him at QB, but common sense tells us that we aren't winning it in 2024 anyways.

So, good move. Jacoby will do a professional job and has already established that he is a team guy who will not get involved
in any sort of QB room shenanigans as we have been led to believe was the case in '23. He is not the most skilled passer of the
football in the league and his judgement isn't always great, but he's a good leader and one of the toughest QBs in the game.

My hopes are that our Offense becomes respectably functional in 2024. That we tunnel out of the sub-basement one spoonful at a time and
try to end up threatening the middle of the pack. That, I am hoping, will have to be the short-term goal until Drake Maye is
ready to lose the training wheels in '25 or so.

Just shoot for .500, baby.

Lifers-Son:
How would you folks feel if they went with Bo Nix from Oregon in Round 2 and picked an OT in round 1. Nix is a guy who could work with the same system they will use for Jacoby for an easy transition. Joe Alt, or J.C. Latham, could be good choices.

Absolutely hate that idea. The best odds of finding a franchise QB are in the 1st round and unless they simply can't stand the top 3 then you have to take your best shot at the QB. Hitting on the QB changes everything.

I'm sorry and I know Nix has learned some things since he left Auburn but I can't get his awful play at Auburn out of my mind.
I'm not a fan of Nix.

I'm also not so sure the Pats love a QB at 3 which would eliminate MHJ from their thinking. OTOH, I'm also not sure they think MHJ is their top-rated WR, so there's that.

If they don't draft a QB at #3, they're taking Marvin Harrison Jr. It's a deep draft at OT, but Harrison is the best WR by light years.

Probably. But...
We've never been through a full cycle with this group of FO people to have learned how they operate. I mean, I think I know but there's always that doubt until they
show us for a year or two what they actually do. So far, they've signed and let go the very players Bill would have signed and let go. But would Bill draft a WR at 3? Never.
Would this group sign a WR at 3? I have no idea and that's what makes this draft so intriguing for me.

Any chance Williams falls to #3? If so, do the Pats take him?

In fairness, we have no idea who he'd pick at 3. He's never picked at 3. If Harrison had the highest grade on the board, I'm guessing that's who he'd pick (unless he could get him later somehow).

Minnesota, Denver and Vegas are sitting at picks 11, 12 and 13 and are just as desperate for a QB. I don't know if the new FO has the brass set to trade out of #3 but if Minnesota were to dangle Justin Jefferson, would you? But then by moving back to 10, what would your draft options be? Is there a QB they would covet in that spot over another position? I don't feel there is.

Would that scenario open the door to (gulp) trade for Fields and look for an OT at this point?

(Can you tell I am jonesing for more moves after yesterday? I feel like Danny Ainge.... TRADE! TRADE!)

I mean, is your scenario Jefferson and 10 for 3? Because I'd do that 100 times out of 100.

You have your answer if you think about how much Bill undervalued the WR position. I fear you're letting your personal bias for MHJ alter your thinking here.
