The 2024 Draft

I have not seen any rankings lately that have him under top 15. Several have him in the top 10. A few in the top 5.
I've stated before, if we can do a slight trade down and pick up another 2nd, I would take him take him over Maye. Let him sit behind Jacolby for a year.
Just think of him as a Spartan and not a Wolverine. :D
He was a day 3 pick the day the season ended. Nothing has changed, and yet somehow he's a top 5 pick now.

Part silly season, part teams buying their own bullshit. I've said it a million times. There's one QB in this draft, and it's the one everyone hates.

Ive got no desire to be waiting for Daniel’s to tweak an ankle or elbow every October after flashing 6 electric games in September.
I read some quote from an nfl exec saying Maye is the QB who will get you fired. The guy is right. Maye will require good coaching and could bomb without it, but if he gets it he can go the distance. Daniels it won’t matter what kind of coaching he gets. He’s gonna do his thing, then get dinged up, and won’t be able to fall back on his arm without his legs. Whoever pulled the trigger on drafting him can say well he looked great until……….(insert injury). I don’t think most people realize just how slight of frame 210 is for someone who’s 6’4. And if he’s reportedly 210 he’s probably 205 after drinking a lot of water.
Not only that but Daniels has had the best offensive talent around him of any QB coming out of college in years.
Every QB not named 'Caleb Williams' is the QB who will get you fired.

That's never happened before in the history of the draft rankings. :lecture:
There are 32 draft rankings that really matter and none of those are published.

I meant it in the sense that if a team drafts Daniels he’s going to have moments where he looks incredible. Any GM can point to those and say well I was right.
At the same time he’s never never going to go the distance. To succeed in the playoffs you’ve got to be able to be a pocket passer, and have the frame to take NFL hits. Daniels doesn’t have the frame to make it through a season. He will never have postseason success.

Maye has the potential to win superbowls. He’s gonna need a good OC at a minimum, and a damn good QB coach. I’m all in on Maye. I think he’s worth even trading up for.

Watch Justin Fields pro day and tell me Daniels is better than him. Why would anyone want to draft him at 3 when Fields just went for a 4th rounder?

Hopefully the Skins act like the Skins, and take that decision off the table for the Pats.
It was Merril Hoge not a NFL exec so take that fwiw

1. What's in the 'bag'?
...the "pipe dream" for the Patriots, per Spielman, would be the Vikings trading receiver Justin Jefferson as part of a package that includes multiple first-round picks. Or maybe starting left tackle Christian Darrisaw.

Receiver and left tackle are two of the Patriots' top needs, alongside quarterback, and the latter is why former Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik (2009-13) isn't sure any trade -- other than a blockbuster in the pipe dream category -- would be worth it for New England.

"It depends on what you really think of the quarterbacks that you have a chance to select. Because if you feel Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye or J.J. McCarthy is the guy -- having three 1s or the right quarterback, I'd rather have the right quarterback," said Dominik, now a Sirius XM NFL and college football analyst.

"The reality is that you have to find that position. Especially where the Patriots are sitting right now -- with Tua [Tagovailoa], Aaron [Rodgers] and Josh [Allen]; wow, that's going to be an uphill battle in the division. So that being said, I just don't think it's a bag you can open -- unless you just don't like these [top] quarterbacks."

2. J.J. in mix: Dominik has studied the quarterbacks and sees a more significant gap from McCarthy to Washington's Michael Penix Jr. than he does from Daniels and Maye to McCarthy. That's why he includes McCarthy in the conversation alongside Daniels and Maye near the top of the draft.

"He's been in a pro system and he's handled all the different things you have to, and he's done what he's supposed to do. One thing that really stands out is he doesn't turn the ball over," he said. "He's also been under tough coaching and responded, which I think that's a huge piece."

I wasn’t sure at first, but the more I read about Mcarthy and watch his film the more I’m sure I’d rather have him than Daniels. I really hope the Pats come out of this draft with either Maye or Mcarthy.
The last thing we need is a slight framed running QB who’s had two outstanding WRs and an exceptional oline to help make him look great.

What has HE done?

Hand the ball off on team that was cheating.

That. Is. All.

Could he be good? Maybe but do you really spend a 1 flipping a 5 sided coin with one head on it?

Even factoring in MSU vs. Wolverine hatred, I don't think you're wrong. I think part of all the "J.J. is great" stuff
since his pro day is that he is that wild-card 4th QB and Arizona might be behind at least some of it in order to
increase the value of that pick. I think it's smokescreen stuff, but you never know.

Of course, Harbaugh is ranting and raving, but nobody takes him seriously.

I can't find a clip of it, but I watched him miss 4 passes in a row to the left sideline. Just bunnies. Johnny Foxboro could have
made those throws with ease. Oh, and this was a combine drill with no coverage. It was embarrassing to watch and I have
no hatred for the kid.

I've got that bizarre drill fail, the meditation in the end zone (due to "anxiety"), the Harbaugh nonsense and the fact he was well-surrounded by draftable talent
in College and seldom got hit. The composite leaves me skeptical. Maybe in time he'll be a good NFL QB, but I don't want the Pats skipping over Maye or
Daniels to draft him 3rd. This stuff with him rising over the last month is 90% hype. Second rounder? That makes more sense to me.

I am going to hate this draft. I hope I'm wrong.

If the intent is to draft someone and have them sit - then why wouldn't you just take Joe Milton day 3? His raw skills are off the charts. Put him in the film room for two years.

Trade down, get capital for the next couple of years to replenish the defense and surround him with as much talent as possible. Drafting any of these other QBs at 3 will be an epic disaster. The marketing job done by these agents have been top-notch.

All day long.

I am trying to be as even minded on him as I can. I just didn't see anything close to 1st round performance. Ever. For real.

Or 2nd round or 3rd.

If it weren't for the Michigan hype and temporary championship he would be labeled a "project".

draft relevant as the litany of busts and duds - for what at the time was likely pre-draft time filling media fawning - should serve as a warning

I predict this draft to be on par with The Dynasty thing… ☕
