The writing on the wall started appearing well before the 2015 season kicked off and the signs that safety Eric Weddle would be leaving the Chargers as a free agent this offseason never went away as the year unfolded.

The final act of Weddle’s time in San Diego came in a late-season dispute with the team after he was placed on injured reserve, all but guaranteeing that Weddle’s next time on the field would come in a different uniform. If Weddle has his way, that uniform will be one of a team in position to contend.

“In the next three or four years, are they going to be competitive, are they going to be division winners, are we going to have a chance at the Super Bowl?” Weddle said, via the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Prioritizing winning over salary should probably help Weddle’s job hunt, although different teams will surely have different comfort levels with plugging Weddle into their secondary. Weddle said he feels comfortable in any scheme, which should also help as he looks for his first NFL home outside San Diego.

Feels like Safety is already our deepest position on the roster

Yeah he just turned 31.

We can't have dude on the team whose beard is better than Ninko's. It's in his contract. :coffee:

Good player.. great beard.

Taking guesses on what contract he gets on the open market? I don't think anyone is going to pay as much for a 31 year old, maybe in the 3 year/21 Million range with say about 8 guaranteed. It's hard to guess as I suspect there will be lots of FA cash sloshing around this off season.

Yes, please. We play with 2 LB most of the snaps. So good Safety and CB depth is more important than ever. Sign Weddle and bring in a solid NFL starting corner and our secondary should be all set.

Too bad Tarell Brown was on IR all year. He was contending well before he went down. Darryl Roberts has the athleticism and was flashing before his injury put him on IR.

These two, Tyms and Gaffney will be big question marks in camp this year. I would love to see BB focus on OL in the draft with the hope that Tyms actually competes for a spot this year.

We are set at safety. I would rather get a CB.

except for the winning part, I'd bet he goes to the raiders

Florio said this morning on his PFT live show, the last hour of which is televised, that Weddle has 4 teams he is considering, but won't disclose them.
I like Chung a lot but Weddle seems like he'd give the Pats a good amount of versatility and like Chung he plays ST too so that's not a limiting factor.
