Just say no....

on a general feel, not post specific - I know RIPF is a bit of a lightening Rod for Catholic Church Attacks and actually can understand the disconnect many feel with him but he is allowed his opinions but I ask that we do not turn this into a beat down of the catholic church just to get to RIPF because there are many posters here that a Catholic and take offense to both RIPF's stand and the attacks of their church

thanks you

:toast:

What he says does have merit. Both aren't exactly good for you. :)

And no one gets shitfaced with their buddies or goes to the bar for the health benefits of wine, before anyone goes there!!!

First off, not a single post or poster "gets" to me....lol. I am all too glad to be a lightening rod for the Roman Catholic church. My opinions on this subject though were related to behavior and had nothing to do with doctrine (as religion is confined to the religion and politics board). But since you bring it up, I do find it sad to see that there are "Catholics" that take offense to my "stands" since my stands are completely in line with the actual teachings of the Roman Catholic church.

I'll add one more point to my original point.....how many people have left either church or the gym and then went on to cause a drunk driving accident or even death? How many people have been killed or injured because they left a bar drunk and then decided it was a good idea to drive?

Jesus should never had turned water into wine at that wedding reception. Rumor has it that there were 7 donkey cart crashes later that night.

1st off I said many have a disconnect with you specifically - not all are based on religious beliefs but on a certain presentability of yourself to the board - so you can claim it is your religion that turns people off or not and I will explain that all I was doing was seeing a turn about to happen and cutting it off. Preventive medicine, cutting the head off the snake before it attacks.

that is true but I know a guy who have left the gym only to have massive heart attacks and crash his vehicle, should we close the gyms down because someone refused to seek medical attention and drove home?

you need to be smart enough to police yourself and not put others in harms way. It is about choice, you have the choice to sit home and drink too and then you have the choice to drive to the local store for some milk and bread because you forgot to get it earlier - the bar is not the root of the evil, it is the evil within the person waiting to be released

I know a priest who smokes. He drinks wine at mass, too. It doesn't seem to be bringing him to promiscuity.

My priest drinks  The old priest used to drink and smoke. But they are both married. The communion at our church is wine so I mean really?

This is a great post!

I see....so if I was "culturally" catholic and proclaimed the virtues of pornography, debauchery, promiscuity, fornication, drug use and gluttony, I'd still be "disconnected" with posters here? LOL...now that is funny. Thanks for the laugh.
BTW, let the snake attack.....I have no fear of that snake. That snake's venom can do me no harm whatsoever.

BTW, you bascially agreed with my earlier premise when you said...."it is the evil within the person waiting to be released". So the bar itself may not be evil, but it is what's commonly known in Catholicism as an "ocassion of sin".....basically a place, thing, person or event that can lead people into doing evil (aka sin). That bar encourages the destructive behavior...although it cannot create it. Why do you think AA groups don't meet in bars? Why do you think they meet together in a group (and many times in a church)? Because they understand that people, places, and circumstances affect us and how we deal with the "evil" within us.
My advice to the OP is sound....avoid the people, places, things, and events associated with smoking. My observation was also sound that many of these bad habits seem to be interrelated, seemed to feed off each other, and seemed to taker place around certain types of people, places, and events.

It's sad that someone started a thread about quitting smoking and was obviously hoping maybe to vent and seeking some support from other people who have done so and it's turned to this.

Please start another thread. Thread-hijacking is an art-form and you're painting moustachios on proverbial Mona Lisa's.

It's a shame that the planet doesn't have a forum for religion. That would be the perfect place for what this thread is becoming.

So seeing as this was about quitting smoking, you don't have to be in a bar to crave a cigarette. It can happen in church too. I get a scoop of wine for communion that could trigger it.

GR said he has a certain area he drives by that he used to light up a cigarette at. So should he avoid driving?

You are going WAY off topic with your bars are evil, you are all sinners (that is what I got out of your posts) talk.
