MERGED: OT- Best Movie Soundtrack

"Pump up the Volume"
Now there's a great mix of music. It had everything from Henry Rollins, the Pixies and Sonic Youth to Ivan Neville, Concrete Blonde, and Above The Law.

Man, I can't believe I forgot Pump Up the Volume. :banghead: I don't think that casette even plays anymore I listened it so much. Everybody Knows and Kick out the Jams were 2 of my favorite songs for like ever. Actually, I still love Everybody Knows. Great song. :thumb:

And not to turn this into a movie thread but that movie kicked ass. Christian Slater at his finest. Also, the movie mentions cock rings. :p

Damn, other one that I just thought of, that I can't believe I didn't think of earlier... Natural Born Killers. Awesome soundtrack. Cowboy Junkies, NIN, Dylan, Dr. Dre, L7. Awesome. :thumb:

Saturday Night Fever

It's generally regarded as one of the top soundtrack albums of all time. Multiple #1 hits. Alice Cooper once said it was not only one of the greatest soundtracks, but one of the greatest albums of all time.

While most of you have posted very good soundtracks, the soundtrack from Times Square (1980) is considered one of THE best Rock and Roll soundtracks ever made.

The movie starred Tim Curry as a DJ, but the real main characters were 2 unknown actresses. In fact, both actresses performed the last 2 songs in the list.

Here is a listing of the songs from the movie -

  • "Same Old Scene" by Roxy Music

"I Wanna Be Sedated" by The Ramones

    "Rock Hard" by Suzi Quatro

    "Babylon's Burning" by The Ruts

"Life During Wartime" by The Talking Heads

"Walk On the Wild Side" by Lou Reed

    "Dangerous Type" by The Cars

"Innocent Not Guilty" by Garland Jeffreys

"The Night Was Not" by Desmond Child & Rogue

"Down In the Park" by Gary Numan

"Pissing in a River" by Patti Smith

"You Can't Hurry Love" Performed by D.L. Byron

"Talk of the Town" by The Pretenders

"Damn Dog" Performed by Robin Johnson

"Your Daughter Is One" Performed by Robin Johnson and Trini Alvarado

Dumb & Dumber may be one of the BEST movies ever made but the soundtrack is awesome.

Fixed your post.

(by the way, the Crow's soundtrack is fantastic, but I'll give it to Star Wars)

Oh Yeah

Vision Quest, and Shrek

Vision Quest is a great movie...and a great soundtrack.

"Only the Young" is one of my favorite Journey tunes, and you never hear it on the radio. Lunatic Fringe was on that, along with quite a few other 80s classics.

Okay, I'm going to be a complete loser here and give some props to Footloose. Sorry, but I used to play that album all the friggin time.

Pretty in Pink is another awesome soundtrack. The Furs, INXS, Echo, New Order, The Smiths. I still love that album. Um, I mean CD.

Less Than Zero - LL Cool J, Aerosmith, Public Enemy, Slayer.

The Lost Boys - Echo, INXS, Lou Gramm

Yeah, okay, so you can tell what decade I grew up in. :p

Don't sweat it -- I think I topped you in the loser category. I just gave my props to Journey and a soundtrack whose biggest hit was a Madonna ballad (crazy for you).

In a battle for biggest loser title, I usually win. Ironic, isn't it?

I've heard it mentioned once, but for me, this one is a no brainer.........................SINGLES is absolutely the best soundtrack ever released. Of course, if you don't like Seattle grundge, then you may disagree. Then again, who doesn't like Seattle grundge???

Definitely the Commitments. Great music.

I also liked Flashdance - goofy movie, very good soundtrack

Who could ever forget Maximum Overdrive? Tacky movie, killer soundtrack.

A couple of Eddie Murphy movies had really good soundtracks:

48 Hours
Beverly Hills Cop

And for those of us who are really old, there's this one:

2001: A Space Odyssey

My favorite soundtracks are Chicago, The Sound of Music, and Save The Last Dance (can't forget my hip-hop music).

Corny as it sounds, I gotta go with some others here and say Grease and Saturday Night Fever. Almost (if not every) song was a top hit single.

And yes, mgo, Footloose is another one.

I have so many soundtracks in my collection I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but I'd agree with a few that have been mentioned, including Saturday Night Fever and The Crow.

Much would depend on my mood too. There are times when I'd put Hackers up there, and others where I'd throw Risky Business in the mix (more the score than soundtrack - Tangerine Dream).

Some very good mentions in this thread.

Some that hadn't been mentioned:

Highlander (Queen Queen and More Queen)
Run Lola Run
Purple Rain (You mention Footloose & Flashdance and NOT Purple Rain??? WTF?)

And props for Maximum Overdrive and Heavy Metal (both of which high on my list)

And last but not least: Donnie Darko. Incredible remake of "Mad World" that they play full length through the credits. I believe the same remake is being used for some video game commercial right now (can't think of the game though).

I prefer the "Graffiti Bridge" soundtrack myself. (This could probably go in the "favorite album that isn't anyone else's favorite" thread as well...)

I don't think Waynes World was mentioned, which is a pretty good one too.
