New England Patriots select QB J. Brissett of North Carolina State. Straight Parcells

I think Gronk owed points on the wonderlic but the man knows football

I don't think Gronk is anywhere near as dumb as he's portrayed.

The fact he hasn't spent a game check yet, invests them, and lives strictly off endorsements shows a financial wherewithal few adhere to.

Maybe he won't sit and quote Shakespeare, but I bet he's cagey smart in areas that interest him.

I agree, I have been saying that from the start. He plays a role and excels at it but to come in and learn this offense like he has shows he is no "big Dummy"

Has Brissett signed yet?

Perspective. Because we got less for him than he cost us. Bad return on the investment.
I never understood this logic, the idea of drafting a guy in order to trade him for a higher pick, especially as every year you'd need to jump a round just to break even. How many players netted us a higher draft pick than the one we used to draft him?

I can think of...Randall Gay. But there must be others.

What I really like is trading a first for a second and next years first. BB did that about 3 years in a row back 12-13 years ago. Basically, after missing the first year with no first, every year after than we got an extra second round pick.

I liked that also. It seemed to me to be just so obviously smart that I didn't understand how he kept getting away with it. ROFL

Cheers, BostonTim

Patriots third round quarterbackJacoby Brissett signed his rookie contract this morning, according to Ben Volin of The Boston Globe (on Twitter). Now that Brissett has inked his deal, the Patriots have now signed every player in their nine-man draft class.

The Pats, of course, lost their first-round pick as a result of the Deflategate scandal. The Patriots opted against trading back into the first-round but did do some jostling in the draft to expand the overall size of their draft class. Heading into draft night, the Patriots owned two consecutive second round picks at Nos. 60 and 61 overall with the latter pick coming from the Cardinals in the Chandler Jones trade. After taking Alabama defensive back Cyrus Jones at No. 60, the Pats parlayed No. 61 to the Saints in exchange for Nos. 78 and 112.
Brissett, like many third-round picks this year, took his time in putting pen to paper. The N.C. State product’s negotiations went on longer than most, however, and that may have been because of his additional leverage as a premium position player. Years ago, Russell Wilson‘s camp successfully negotiated for a higher base salary than the seven players taken immediately before him and Brissett’s reps may have pulled off a similar feat. The QB neglected to hire a traditional agent, instead relying on former NFL safety Abram Elam, whom Brissett is consulting as an adviser, and NFLPA director of salary cap and agent administration, Mark Levin.
Here is the complete rundown of the Patriots’ 2016 draft class:

Put the Kool Aid down before it spills.

Point out one that has popped in the last 5-10 years that was severely over drafted per almost all ranking sources.

Easy. Vollmer, Collins, Mankins, and to a lesser degree Mason, Ryan. How many more would you like?

McCourty has done okay as a special teams guy drafted in the first round. Has everyone forgotten the beating BB took for drafting Jimmy G in the second round? True, he hasn't 'popped' yet, but does anyone think he's the next Rohan Davey?

I guess I have.

The beating Bill took for Jimmy was not based on Jimmy not being a quality talent ala Davey as most analysts thought he was a good QB that fit NE's system well. It was more about Bill taking a QB in the second round instead of another position to help Brady win another ring at age 37. Of course it all worked out because Brady won that 4th ring anyways. :toast:

What is interesting to me is Bill has not taken any beating at all for drafting Brissett in the third round literally two years after he drafted Jimmy. Perhaps with the DG nonsense and Brady's potential suspension, the nay sayers have come around to understanding having as many quality QBs on the roster as possible is a good thing in the NFL.
