OT: Descartes vs. Kierkegaard

I'm probably not smart enough to post in this Thread - but let me give it a shot:

I am therefore I think.

Or am I putting Descarte before d'horse?

Cheers, BostonTim

Yes, but what does it all mean?

I follow the doctrine of Frank.

To do is to be.

To be is to do.

Do-be-do-be-doo.

Personally, I like Nietzsche. He was one helluva linebacker for the Packers back in the 60's!

Because if Descartes is an idiot, then "relatively speaking" what are most of us in comparison?
People with a clue (and a life).

:)

"If I am mistaken, I am."

Makes me wonder if Descartes read St. Augustine.

I believe that all truth is rooted in the words of the great philosopher Popeye:

I am what I am, and that's all that I am...

Those words might paint Popeye as a realist. However, consider that Popeye also stated:
I'm strong to the finish, cause I eat my spinach

To those that hate spinach, Popeye was saying that the stength to endure hardship comes only by enduring hardship.

To those that like spinach, Popeye was saying that our life force is enhanced by experiencing that which we enjoy.

Same words, but different truth...based solely on the wiring between your taste buds and your brain.

That sounds more like an existentionalist to me.

Perhaps Popeye was implying that dichotomy is the essence of truth.

You do, of course, realize that you have over 7,200 posts, mister man-about-town?

Seriously, though, you do you have a point. With the exception of the (relatively) small and vocal minority of members who self-identify as "Zombies" or "One of the undead -- other," most posters on PatriotsPlanet are (relatively speaking) more or less alive, as opposed to Descartes who is (relatively speaking) more or less dead.

Which gives us something of an advantage over the father of modern philosophy.

I like to think of him as the father of modern mathematics.

Indeed. He's that, too.

Amazing what a whole lot of love, care, remedial education and tutoring can do for an idiot.

Imagine what he might have accomplished had he been "smaaht."
