yes, mazz, that has been the paradigm for sure.i want bb to show it does not have to be that way. he's ballsy enough to care only about doing what he feels benefits the pats.
For every 1 mahomes, there are multiple flaccoes and staffords.

The truth is, it's so hard to find the right QB. It doesn't matter if they're stars in college, it's no guarantee of success in the pro game. There have been too many drafts where we've been told that guys like Darnold, Mariota, Winston, RGIII, Vince Young, Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Jake Locker etc etc, were the next big things, only for them to crash and burn.

You have guys then like Brady and Rodgers who entered the draft with little fanfare and look what happened then.

Even if the right superstar QB is taken and lives up to the promise, teams still have to make sure he's surrounded with top calibre talent, especially in the O Line. Case in point was Andrew Luck, the best QB to come out of college since Manning, Rodgers and Brady yet the Colts stupidly failed to get him the protection needed and he was battered into early retirement. Look at Burrow, the Bengals don't have the talent upfront and he was getting killed and in his first season had an ACL/MCL rebuild to go through, he's barely been in the league 5 mins. Look what happened Troy Aikman when he got o the Cowboys, the guys were getting murdered his first season before Johnson built the Great Wall of Dallas.

It really is a crapshoot. Who will succeed, who will fail....Lawrence could just end up another RG3, Winston, Young etc. And the next stellar QB could be buried out of sight in the 5th round.
You can say this about every position. Bottom line is, you have to find the best match for your team and pick him.

I think QB is the most difficult to call. You can look at a great college CB and look at his speed, range, tacking, pretty cleary and make a very good prediction on him in the pros. Same with an O Lineman, an LB, I think RB is another one you can see great potential in when in college.

QB is so tricky because the defenses in the pros have such a wide chasm to those in College.

To me, besides having nfl caliber skills, etc. the mental part of qb is so hard to evaluate. it is why the wonderlich would sway me more with a qb than with other positions, and why i would want a qb who was an excellent/high achieving student in school.

The eye test is hard to ignore imo. THAT is the number #1 test for me. Ryan Leaf sucks ass as a human being. I knew in college he wasn't going to be good.

I agree. I think it is #1 for Bill too. I just want him to fire as many bullets as possible to find the next guy. I don't care if we draft a bust or two. Take some swings and see if we can find someone. As an example, I LOVED when he drafted Brissett two years after drafting Jimmy. Parcells raved about Brissett and Bill used a 3 on him and he has developed into probably the best back QB in the league right behind Hill.

Brisket is eh...very low ceiling.

Jimmy worries me. Besides him being injury-prone, there are questions about his application. I don't want to sound like an old fart, but his dalliance with that Porn actress was bizarre. she is way older then he is and has had more cocks than a KFC supplying slaughterhouse. It's not like she was the only woman he could have pulled.
Sort of Jimmy's version of Tara Reid.

I don't think Rodgers entered the draft with little fanfare.

He was part of the group of invited college players in the green room, those expected to be taken in the first round. Many expected Rodgers to be taken first overall.

Then Alex Smith was taken first, and the Rodgers watch started. He fell, and fell, and fell, until finally Green Bay selected him with the 24th pick.

He was still a first round draft choice, and his fall in the draft was fodder for the media for weeks.

Text book example is Jeff George. He had amazing arm talent. Deep ball, touch, rifle, & could fit the ball in the smallest of windows. NFL people to this day still rave about his arm talent. Then they are quick to talk about his .2 brain, lousy work habits & poor leadership qualities. Always quick to blame wr's for running wrong routes. Did not take film work serious, etc. I can't remember who it was, maybe ex steeler qb Mark Malone, said years ago that he has zero pocket awareness & couldn't read a D to safe his life. He thought he could get by with nothing but his talent & that doesn't work in the NFL.

Interesting that you bring Jeff George up. I know it's a bit of cliche at this point about him. But I used him as an example of a monster talent with no brain and little heart to some Colt's fans friends in a FB group No1Jag and I run.

The topic actually did Marino have that killer instinct like Tom or if not is that why he has no rings. It was just a thought but I got my head caved in by a dear friend. She completely told me never, ever mention Jeff, Peyton, and Dan in the same sentence. Still love her though. ❤️

This would explain McNabb's puking :barf:on the field

Well mcnabb has a drinking problem. not a hard leap to make. now do i believe it? coming from t.o., who knows?

Wow, there is an absolutely crushing blow for the Packers, David Bakhtiari tore his ACL in practice today. That's a huge loss to see their All-Pro LT out for the playoffs.
