KING CARL WON'T BUDGE

The Dolphins want quarterback Trent Green. Quarterback Trent Green wants to play for the Dolphins.

The only problem? The Chiefs still want a second-round pick for his rights.

G.M. Carl Peterson's reasoning is that, because the Fins got a great deal from the Patriots for receiver Wes Welker, Miami should be willing to part with almost as much as they received.

''I told [G.M.] Randy Mueller that they made a great trade with New England,'' Peterson recently told the Kansas City Star. "They got for what we would consider a third wide receiver and kick-return specialist second- and seventh-round draft picks. I told him that I think a starting quarterback is worth that."

Pats got robbed.

You left 'Zombies' off your pole. That's gonna garner some complaints.

How can we best put this? Oh, yeah, I know: go $#%* yourself.

First of all, you utter moron, it was Chiefs GM Carl Petersen who made the comment, so your thread title is wrong.

Second of all, regardless of whether it was Petersen or Mueller, when was the last time those two bozos even won their division, never mind win a Super Bowl? What they think has about as much weight as what you think.

Whoever said it doesn't change the fact that the Pats, in desperation to keep from getting beat for a 4th consecutive time by the Colts, gave up too much for a 3rd string WR and PR.

Ummm... You left off part of the article. Here's what the next part said:

There are several problems with this logic, in our view.

First, Green is no longer a starting quarterback in Kansas City. So he has less relative value to the Chiefs than Welker had to the Dolphins.

Second, Mueller could turn Peterson's argument on its head and say, "The Chiefs made a great trade with the Jets a year ago. They gave up a fourth-round pick for what we would consider a head football coach. I think a guy they no longer want to be their starting quarterback is worth that."

Third, we think Peterson's new threat to do the deal after the draft is a hollow one. It's always better to get draft picks before the next draft. Why wait a year to cash in on the fruits of a trade? In the NFL a lot can happen in that 12-month period. For example, the Chiefs might tank and Clark Hunt might decide to tell King Carl to move on. (Or move out.)

Fourth, Peterson continues to ignore the fact that, at the end of the day, he has no leverage. Sooner or later, the Chiefs will cut Green because they don't want to pay him $7.2 million, which becomes fully guaranteed if he is on the opening-day roster. By playing the hardass role, Peterson is taking a chance that Green will pop an ACL during a minicamp, forcing the team to pay the full $7.2 million.

I left that out because it has no relevence to the fact that the Pats got hosed.

That's kind of like taking the tires off your car because they have no relevance to how smoothly it drives.

Maybe, but it does add relevence that the fact that they didn't get hosed.

Yes, put ye penis in your desk drawer and slam it shut

Patriots-

+ Wes Welker
+ Adalius Thomas
+ Donte Stallworth
and so on and so on...

Colts-

- Dominic Rhodes
- Nick Harper
- Cato June
and so on and so on...

Who needs draft picks? We have tons of em. The fact is, a proven commodity receiver has real value to the Pats, and the draft picks were non essential, since we have so many extra picks.

Say, what did the Colts get for Stokley?

I still can't figure out why everyone says that Welker is an 'at best third wide'.. Last season he caught more balls than Chambers, who is typically regarded as a starting wide out in the league. He caught more balls while Culpepper and Harrington were throwing to him.

Why couldn't he be a "#1" or "#2" wide out on a team where Tom Brady will be throwing him the rock?

He already was a #1 (catch-wise) WR on a team with a bad QB situation...

......and they use the precious cap space to sign Rocky Boiman !?!?!
Dude he is a beast.

Plus he fullfills our affirmative action quata for players with red hair. I think the rules are something to the effect of "for each player with red hair on your roster, you get to chage one NFL rule that is not to your liking per year."

Actually to be serious, we are using that precious cap space to sign our rookies, and hopefully dwight freeney long term. And looking ahead, Dallas Clark, and Bob Sanders.

Stokes was simply a luxery we could not afford anymore.

But back on Wes Welker...

I think a second round pick was a reach, but if you can use that pick to get a better player than you could have drafted (which "could" be true) it makes sense...at least to me.
