We're on to Tampa Bay: Game Thread - Buccaneers @ Patriots - Sun. Oct 3rd 8:20 PM (NBC)

I don't disagree with your larger point that Goodell sucks, but unless there is some alternate explanation that has been uncovered today, that one
was a completely legit penalty on Slater. For one thing, he never exactly got hammered when he first went OOB, but attempted to use the shove to
his advantage, because he thought he was free (or something). He never really fought to get back IB-- at least to my eyes and that's what he's supposed to do.

I couldn't figure out why he was griping, although it appeared he was blaming the 2nd defender for keeping him OOB, which was a specious argument
on Matt's part. I think there was a gap between the blockers, but he ignored it and kept running. No ref really wants to throw a flag
on him, because his rep is squeaky clean, but I don't think he left them with a choice.

If anybody is aware of a different explanation then please hook me up. That's just how I saw the play.
You are crazy. He got held and thrown out of bounds off the snap and then wasn’t allowed back in, pushed back a 2nd time.

Couldn’t be any clearer. The guy has been in the league for 13 years and I don’t think has ever been called for it.

And, honestly, seeing such chintzy calls vs the Pats as Judon is armbarred all night is an insult to my intelligence as a fan.

Let's see if this clip slips through for the time being. Why don't you tell me exactly how he "wasn't allowed" back in?

He ran over 20 yards from the initial contact, which was a factor for maybe the first two yards or so before the 2nd guy finally shoved him. Then he ran another dozen yards
before cutting in. They don't have to send him an engraved invitation back in and those guys usually hand-fight all the way down the field. There was very little actual
contact on the play.

I saw it pretty clear, I believe, not that I wanted to see it. Not really sure what you were seeing.

Eh...he could have gone back in.

Surprising? Why is that surprising to you?

They missed a FG - that would've put them at 20 points.
They fumbled the ball inside the Tampa 40 - that drive would've put them at/over 20 points.
They threw an INT on Tampa's side of the field. That drive may have put them at/over 20 points.

The offense still has a lot of room for improvement but they played well enough to win yesterday. In fact, the entire team did. The Pats earned that one but couldn't find the break they needed to seal it.

That's been the story of the season. The Pats are the 26th ranked scoring O.

Idk, man. I'd liked to have seen some effort by Slater to get back in bounds.

There were many plays like this. The Bucs secondary was a practice squad and blew a ton of coverages. I hope Evan Lazar posts some video clips tomorrow.

Tom Brady may have emerged victorious in his highly anticipated return to Foxboro as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he was not the best quarterback on the field on Sunday.
That honor belonged to his replacement and heir apparent Mac Jones who stood tall in the face of constant pressure to deliver his best game as a pro, albeit in a losing effort.
Here’s are various advanced stats from the Patriots’ 19-17 loss to the Bucs in Week 4.

Videos of Mac Jones' performance here

This was posted on PatsFans but wanted to discuss here as well. This was a horrific play by Van Noy. The 3rd down & 6 early in the 4th quarter that Brady scrambled for. You can see that Van Noy was in perfect position to tackle Brady about 3-5 yards short of the line to gain, had a good angle on him, and basically just had to wrap-up Brady and bring him to the ground, with Godchaux right there as well to finish the deal. But he tries to knock Brady's head off instead of the wrap up and actually takes Godchaux out of the play.

And then on top - it looks like Brady was short of the line to gain so a challenge there and Bucs may be looking at 4th and 1.

Sums up my thoughts as well. Need to start winning these close games. Pats are 4-10 over their last 14 one possession games.

Patriots can no longer play the moral victory card

This is the concerning part to me. Just making so many mistakes to lose games. The precision, tightness, laser focus is just not there.

The Patriots are quite literally 4 points shy of being 3-1.

Yet we still only lost 2 games by a total 3 points, a lost fumble cost us one game and 12" to the right and Folks kick is good and we beat Tampa. Imagine what happens when the 2 new receivers, 2 new TE's and the QB all start firing on all cylinders?

Oh, bullshit.

Of course it sums up your thoughts since it's from 'EEI. You both think in the here-and-now and you both have strong negative tendencies.
Neither of you can think a year into the future which is what BB always has to do.
Most of us see the future and we like the way it's going.
The close wins will come in time. We have a lot of new players that have to be assimilated and coached up. It's coming together.
We can see the improvement.

The Pats spent $160 mil this off-season in guaranteed money to be competitive this season. Many on the predictions thread had the team at 11 or 12 wins. Now you want to move the goal posts and say we should be looking at the future? Bill didn't build this team this year for next years results. He built it to win this year and we have had 2 games now at home in which we should have won if not for mistakes that cost us both games.
