I haven't come here in 6 months or longer, but now, each time I come to this site on Firefox I get hammered with redirect popup windows that are hard to close. It seems to be for fraudulent stuff, like telling me it's a Firefox update that I need to click on when it's obviously not from Firefox. A bunch of other crap that keeps popping up when I try to click links on this site also.

Is anyone else getting this? It could be that I have a virus, but I'm not getting this at any other sites, but when I come here on Firefox, it's happening every time. Several of the times I've come here, my antivirus tells me that it secured a threat and that hasn't happened to me before.

He shouldn’t need to. It’s this site. I never have problems anywhere but here, not even on ChiefsPlanet.

Anyway, welcome back.

it is only here and I think the old outdated software is the reason.

BostonSportsUproar.net is the other site that so far is clean of this crap.

also after a 10 redirects it appears to stop until you close and open it again.

UT has posted more than once that there is nothing we can do about it. We are at the mercy of the ChiefsPlanet owner. There was a time when we were supposed to get a major software update and it never happened. My memory may be fading, but I believe there was going to be an issue with preserving the past 17 years worth of posts, so it was going to be a trade-off. I could be completely wrong in my memory.

It's been discussed in the recent past, we have an aging site and I am personally surprised it's lasted this long. That's a testament to the community here who have called this home for a very long time. If the popups and other issues cause people to move on, there's little that can be done about it.

I'm having the same problem. Download a pop up blocker but it doesn't help. Like everyone else is saying I'm just having this problem on this site.

It is this site. It is not your computer, in most cases.

I do what I can given the limitations we have.

This software is old and vulnerable and hackable. They get on, replace board files with redirects, I find the files, and replace with official versions. In a never ending cycle. There is nothing else I can do as we do not own the DotCom domain. So it's up to Austin on when he wants to upgrade the software and fix it. I think at this point, the redirects are coming from hacks that are in directories above what I have access to. I have emailed Austin several times on this issue.

One of the reasons I started Boston Sports Uproar (there were several reasons), was as a place to fall back to if something catastrophic happens here because of the neglect.

It kills me to watch it degrade after all the work so many put into this site, but without ownership, our hands are tied here as the software becomes more and more obsolete.

About the only thing left that I can do here to try and address the problem is to get rid of addons - most notably the casino, and return the board as far as I can to a default vbulletin install. But there is no guarantee there either. It may or may not help with the issue.

This is vBulletin version 3.8.
vBulletin 4 was released in late 2009
vBulletin 5 was released in 2012

To give you an idea of how outdated this is. There have been a ton of security updates since 2008.

He's a Chefs fan...but, owns a Pats site? :coffee:

He owns the server and the domain. He has always allowed us to use the server at no expense to anyone.

The board was started after some Pats fans had been posting on Chiefs Planet, liked it and asked for help starting up a similar site. Back then (2002), most Pats fans belonged to the official message board on Patriots.com and it was heavily moderated and restricting.

IT is what it is. The only alternative is for all of us to become more active on UT's Boston Sports Uproar and slowly leave this place behind. Not sure what else any of us can offer.

Did you try AdBlock? That's what I use with all my browsers along with the built in pop-up blocker and never once had this problem.
