Josh Gordon to IR?

Guy runs 22 mph on a treadmill yesterday and gets put on IR for the sake of releasing him. Part of me hopes he ends up on KC or Baltimore and torches Belichick in the playoffs. Such a stupid decision by Belichick when the receiving corps is thin (not to mention Edelman is banged up). If Gordon had a relapse (zero evidence of that) that it makes BB look even worse.

I'm guessing you weren't a fan of the whole Milloy or Bledsoe thing either...

I don't think releasing Gordon weakens this team at all. In fact, it might make us better. Harry showed us a little of what he is capable of in the preseason. If his leg is better, I suspect he alone is an upgrade over Gordon. Add in a solid WR like Sanu who is good at running the routes Brady thrives in, plus is a good blocker, and those two additions seem to me to make us better, more balanced and harder to defend. Meyers is continuing his upward trajectory too. Not sure what his ceiling is, but he has the feel of a play maker. The only guy I'm really not sold on is Gunner, but others here seem pretty high on him.

Overall, while I am surprised, Gordon has not lived up to the hype and promise. Moving on feels OK to me.

22 MPH has not been confirmed. It was Breer stating that he "heard" that. He certainly wasn't running during the season at 22MPH, which would equate to around a 4.1 40.

If Sanu has not been acquired, if Harry were not coming off IR next week, if Meyers were not showing continued progress, then your "thin" argument may hold water.

Go ahead and root for another team, you're the board's biggest pink hat anyways.

Gunner is a solid PR that takes those reps away from an already beat up JE. That alone is worthy of game day active roster spot.

Sad to see Gordon IR/released, but someone had to go. I wished we could of kept him till Harry got his legs underneath him, but BB made the call.

Hopefully it will work out. I like the Sanu pick up and that will help. If Harry can produce then i am not too worried about the Gordon situation.

You calling anyone a pink hat is absolute irony. Thanks for the laugh, Brian.

So you think taking away Brady's most explosive weapon is a good thing? Wow.

Explosive? Not this year. More like a simple firecracker rather than an M80. He's not been explosive at all this year.

Agree. I like the guy. But 20 catches for 287 with 123 YAC isn’t anything I’d label explosive. He was a big possession guy. Now that’s Sanu & Harry.

I really can't think of one move that BB has made that didn't work out for the Pats. I wasn't a fan of the JimmyG, Brissett, Seymour, Milloy, or Butler tickets out of town but they seem have to not affected them too badly.

I would rather have kept Gordon but I don't know everything that happened behind the scenes.

Other than a couple of highlight reel plays, Gordon has basically been a JAG this season. Not exactly happy he is on IR, I was hoping he would eventually get his mojo back but he's been a shadow of himself even before the knee injury. There's definitely something up with him that we're not privy to.

When the fuck have I ever been a pink hat? I'm not the one who goes around social media every time my team goes poorly and then stands in line to be the first to buy a championship hat when they eventually win.

Gordon has shown zero explosiveness this year. At all. Not a big loss.
If he were Josh Gordon of 5 yeRs ago with his speed, then it’d be a loss.

I found some answers to my questions:

- If the Pats just cut him before next week's trade deadline, he'd go through waivers and he could be claimed by any team, possibly an AFC competitor.
- By IR'ing him and then waiving him after next week, he's a free agent. At least he can choose his next team.
- The Pats have to wait 6 weeks after waiving him before they could resign him
- Assuming he is still available, they could bring him back some time in December effectively bypassing the 2 recalls.

Points 1 and 2 are the other way around Bideau

If the Patriots release JGordon before 29th, he becomes a free agent, and is due the remaining balance on his contract.

If the Patriots release JGordon after the trade deadline, he is subject to waivers. Any team that picks him up is liable for the remaining balance on his contract (1M+/-), which would be a cap boon for the Patriots.

I'm guessing he won't be released until after the trade deadline has passed.

Queue up the "Patriots are cheating and manipulating the cap rules" complaints starting now.

I didn't think he would become a free agent until the end of the season...4 yrs in the league?
