The 2021 Draft- We Need This One

Bucky Brooks last mock has Fields falling to the Patriots at 15. He has Mac falling to Wash at 19.
He could be right or he could be wrong.

I wonder who we want at 8 if it's not a Qb.

I'm not reading any more articles by so-called experts in the media about what the Pats "might" do. I must have seen 20 such articles today.
As if anyone knows and as of now BB himself doesn't know bc he doesn't know how the draft will fall.
Oh, he has a plan but it's contingent on this or that. He doesn't know for sure.

I'm done with these articles til after the draft.
but what you posted by howe was great. i love riddick!

No love for Mond? What if Mond was selected at 15? Keep hearing good things about him. Played in a tough league for multiple years, doesn't panic in the pocket. Can have a quick release under pressure.

I can't imagine BB selling his draft capital for most of Plan A. I'm ok with any of those options at 15.
The odds of Jimmy coming back seem to be decreasing with each passing day.
Think Mond is a better option than Plan C.

Generic question for all;
Does BB prefer a mobile QB?

Having looked at interception ratios for these college QBs several have exceptional values, Lawrence, Wilson,, but if the college QB is mobile and runs a lot are his interception ratios inflated? And if he is running, that QB is limiting his reads, (like Jones coming out of college for the Giants). I am thinking BB wants a QB that can handle the multiple reads, with accuracy. The mobility factor is a low priority skill.

And as a tidbit, a lot of these QBs today have better interception ratios than Brady, Peyton, Anyone know why?
Stidham's interception ratio in college was better than Brady's while in college.

If the Pats took Mond at 15, I don't know what I'd do but it wouldn't be good. No way. I fear that would be a historically bad pick and I doubt he goes before the 3rd round.

I give Mond credit for improving himself dramatically over what he was prior to this past season (which, I might point out, wasn't a normal year). He had a better year throwing and has always been a decent runner to the point where he would run way too much, but it was the only way they make 1st downs until 2020. I think the guy could develop into a good backup, but I'll be pretty surprised if he develops to the point where he is a plus starter. He's still pretty raw for the NFL, imo, and he does not throw a proper deep ball. He throws hard line drives. Touch is not his thing at any level. Just my opinion. A&M usually has a solid roster, but for a team that tries to run a pro-style system they've had fits all around trying to find a consistent passing game for most of his career there and I can't blame it all on the receivers.

Maybe I decided who he was in 2018 & 19 and am just limiting myself to liking guys that fit the Brady prototype more than the RPO guys, but, as tough, as good of a guy and leader as Kellen seems to be I want somebody that can execute the kind of offense we've developed over 20 plus years that won us six Super Bowls and I can't convince myself that he is that guy, so I left him off my list completely.

Would it shock me if Bill likes him? Nope. I'll bet he has respect for him, but that is different from handing him the keys to the family car. I see him as a similar style player, but not as good as Jalen Hurts and they want to run him out of Philly already.

My guess on the interception question is that top-level College Football has advanced a lot in terms of pro-style offenses in the few decades and the coaching, film work and emphasis to throw the ball in the stands if nothing is there has all changed since those two guys played at Michigan and Tennessee. It is a good question, though, and I'd like to hear Belichick's answer to it.

I appreciate all the effort you put in to the draft. I always learn something new. You the man!

It's impossible to predict what will happen isn't it. I mean Jones or Fields would be awesome but the Niners are going to get in there first and then the Falcons and Donks before a potential 8th pick for us. If Jones is free at 8 it will be massive for us, he's an NFL QB no question.

Trey Lance is very interesting. He seems to have bowled Rich Eisen over in his interview with him with many already saying he sounds like a NE QB. Eisen said in a tweet that he has interviewed draft prospects for 18 years and Lance is going to make some team and their fans very very happy.

People forget that Riddick was a Player Personnel guy from 2005 to 2013. He was the Director of PP for 2 teams - Washington and Philly. He played for BB in Cleveland and Saban in Miami. 2 time Academic All American in college. He speaks bluntly.

Thanks, man. Means a lot from you. Here's another article I've been saving for a few days that pretty much makes Mac Jones the most unlikely 9ers pick of the top 5 despite what Rapaport says. (Not about the Pats, lol, but definitely about the draft order) Well worth reading.

Chevvs is one of the most informative posters on any forum anywhere. It is worth it to read this forum just for his posts alone.

PFF's final mock draft. All 7 rounds. Here's their Pats' picks. I'd be ecstatic.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

15. QB Mac Jones, Alabama
46. LB Jabril Cox, LSU
96. WR Tylan Wallace, Oklahoma State
120. S Hamsah Nasirildeen, Florida State
122. G Deonte Brown, Alabama
139. OT Jalen Mayfield, Michigan
177. Edge Elerson Smith, Northern Iowa
188. RB Rhamondre Stevenson, Oklahoma
197. CB Bryce Thompson, Tennessee
242. DI Darius Stills, West Virginia

I mean, if we get Mac Jones, the rest of the league is going to be in despair. It will be a hammer blow.

Mac the Knife and Cox make the entire draft, if one or two of the other are rotational contributors this year the it's a good draft.

Are most people high on Jones? He is the one of the 5 that I want the least. His game is not at all what you want in today's NFL. I know he is supposed to be cerebral and all but he also played with a stacked team with wide open WRs all the time. I just don't seem him as a sure thing but who knows, he could be great I guess. I would much rather have Fields.

BTW, is it true that Patricia is going to be a big part of the draft process? If yes, why?

Do you think Denver does not want Fields? I would think they will leap frog us and trade with the Bengals to get to #5 to get Fields. I really hope not as Fields is the #1 QB I want out of all 5.
I'm not a big fan of fields. I live in buckeye Nation. I do have big questions about his accuracy & reading coverages in pros. Something I seen him struggle with in college. Lets not forget really struggling after injury to his RB in BCS playoffs.
