Mac Jones Is Our QB1

This might be my new favorite pic of Mac Jones. Shows him as a freshman and as a senior at Bama. OMG. Quite the transformation

who was that legendary frequent WEEI sports radio caller that coined the phrase:

"He's tall, got a strong arm and He's tall"

couldn't been talkin' 'bout Mac :p

Awesome find BSF. Riddick is first on the podcast and he is well worth a listen about why he liked Jones well before the draft. On draft day, some one here - you can probably guess who - trashed Belichick for drafting a QB that couldn't win in today's NFL where being mobile is of primary importance, plus pointed out that BB drafted a guy who wasn't even good, that Jones had the greatest cast of WRs that made him look good.

That last one almost had me convinced until I saw Jones on the field. I wish I'd heard Riddick back then. I never would've doubted.

After Riddick, JMD and Troy Brown spoke.

This video is an example of throwing people open, which Riddick talked about. Maximize the screen to really see the ball placement.\\

This is excellent, BSF! Thank you for posting it. Def worth few minutes for those of us that can't get enough of why BB rocks and Mac was the right decision.

Now I am pumped! Off for a run! 🏃‍♂️

Will try not to let the turds on Bosto sport radio ruin my Luis Riddick buzz...

Here's another terrific video well worth 9 minutes.

Kurt Warner gets into the nuances of smart QB play and what Mac Jones did in the preseason that shows him why Mac Jones will be a great NFL QB.

"What made Mac Jones great last year at Alabama is what's going to make him great in the NFL. We are going to start our 2021 rookie QB check-in with the number five guy drafted: Mac Jones. You can possibly argue he has been the best of all five of these quarterbacks in the preseason. I think the reason he has been the best is because what you saw in college has been able to translate over to what you have seen in the pros. So this session will be on the things Mac Jones is doing well. We will take the next session of StudyBall and take a look at some of the things he is going to have to do better as he grows into an NFL quarterback. But that’s exactly what we expect. We don’t expect these guys to be finished products at this point. Let’s take a look at the tape. Mac Jones is showing us that he can do everything that he did in college in the NFL. Including that last throw that was up and over, throwing it 45 yards, perfect timing. Placement. Placement is what this game is all about. You don’t have to be able to throw it a mile if you can get it out on time and place it where it needs to be. A lot of good things by Mac Jones. Seeing, processing, and getting things out on time. That’s what made him great last year at Alabama and that to me is what’s going to make him great in the NFL."

Episode 2 is Kurt telling us what he needs to work on. This is also terrific.
It shows me how little Mac has to learn and even that's not on him instinctively but mostly on our offensive scheme.
Mac will have it down before game game 1. He has whiteboards all over his walls filled with diagrams of the plays (true, not speculation). I'm not worried even a little bit.

98.5 had thae huge turd Beer on for the first part of my run. Man, I can't stand that guy. They even called him out for being negative all the time. And that ANNOYING crutch he has saying "right?" after 70% of his sentences is ear splitting. He clearly does that because he doesn't believe people agree with what he is spewing. Yuk.

Switched to music for the remainder and day dreamed that maybe we caught lightning in a bottle a second time... <insert piggy graphic here>

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

Mac Jones gave every reason to believe he is a starting-caliber quarterback

Cam Newton didn’t lose the starting job (and his spot on the 53-man roster) with his preseason performance. Jones won the job. His 92.2 PFF grade this preseason ranked second among qualifying quarterbacks, and he was one of just three passers to deliver an accurate ball on over 70% of his attempts, per PFF’s ball-charting data.

First-round rookie quarterbacks | 2021 preseason

PlayerPFF gradeAccurate pass %Big-time throw %
Trevor Lawrence78.3 (10th)58.5% (22nd)4.5% (t-22nd)
Zach Wilson85.7 (N/A)64.7% (N/A)9.1% (N/A)
Trey Lance56.7 (46th)47.4% (48th)4.5% (t-22nd)
Justin Fields67.6 (20th)38.3% (59th)5.7% (t-13th)
Mac Jones92.2 (2nd)70.8% (3rd)6.9% (7th)

He represented a better option to run an offense resembling what had worked for so many years under Tom Brady, and he made it difficult for head coach Bill Belichick and company to keep him from starting against Miami in Week 1.

I wonder if the big time throw % accounts for drops?

Why listen at all? I have to say, I never listen to other market sports teams because I really don't care about other teams in any sports but I did listen a lot last year obviously to the Tampa media because they were covering Brady. I was stunned by the politeness, courtesy, generally happy and positive vibe that was present all the time. And that was true even when the team lost 3 games in November. They were happy people unlike our sour puss, click baiting, surly and often unprofessional media. Honestly, I don't know how any of our professional athletes stomach them.

I know, right? Negativity really sucks.

The media, I mean.

You have said yourself Hawg that my opinions are always backed up with data, info, stats to support it. I have no problem with a critical viewpoint as I obviously possess that but the fanboy nonsense is just as bad IMO. Neither extreme is good but a good majority of our media knows zippo about football and even less about our team which is why they are so insufferable.

Boston is not an "other market" for me. I live in Michigan, but was born, raised and educated in MA. Detroit is my "other market". LOL.

Why listen? Because the news is old by the time I hear or see it here in MI. There are times when the listening can be fun. Draft day. Free agent signings. Cam getting released. Anything Bruins related.

The mornings can be listenable when nothing is going on - sometimes. Wiggie can be funny (and really dumb). Toucher (sp?) is a complete douchbag who is, ironically, from MI. The afternoon guys on 98.5 are just asses. 97.1 isn't much better. The time I have available is generally mornings though.

At any rate, did you hear that BB cut Cam and Mac is the QB1?

I had no idea you were not in MA. So you literally live in Brady country? LOL

Every now and again I sometimes listen to Felger and Mazz on 98.5 just because they do at times have really interesting topics. I do enjoy Tuesdays when they have Bedard on. But mostly it is Sirius radio for me. Very high quality football talk but you don't get the local take which I do miss.

Yes, all 43 seconds of combined Bruins coverage is must-listen radio. (I say 'combined', but let's be honest, WEEI doesn't talk about hockey).
