Mac Jones Is Our QB1

Yesterday was the 1st day that the rest of the NFL was like, uh oh. There were rumblings, but he played like a savvy vet yesterday. A rookie has no business playing like that.

I think Jones is great - but have to give credit to BB. He just knows how to develop QB's. He doesn't rush them; he gameplans around their strengths, weaknesses and where they are in their progress. He doesn't put them in situations they can't handle.

It makes me wonder what would have happened to Brady if he had been drafted by another coach or team, and also how many QB's over the years have failed because coaches did NOT handle them well.
I am not convinced you know who would have been given much of a chance. He was a 6th rd pick, I mean he was 4th on the depth chart here as a rookie. What I find annoying is how people want to rewrite history of how you know who developed. He wasn't a star in 2001, 2002 or even 2003. Sure, he was helping them win SBs, but he wasn't lighting up the scoreboard the way the QBs have done for a while with all the rule changes.

Considering how many NFL teams are so poorly run or middling, it's highly likely if he went somewhere else, he wouldn't have had anywhere near the success he has had. A lot of TEAM is about building it, right on down to the economics of managing the cap or even looking 1-2 years ahead. An example is BB gave Raekown McMillian a new deal already after he came here as a FA and got hurt in camp. He loves the guy. No one has any idea why, but that guy will play a role on this team next year and no one will even remember BB actually signed a guy to an extension without ever playing one snap here. Will it payoff? Who knows? The point is, back end drafted guys or UDFAs here have become millionaires because of BB the GM and Head Coach.

That's not to say these people haven't worked their tail off or had little talent. It just means people like Edelman would have been cast off as a failed Wildcat NFL prospect and wouldn't have put together a stellar career with 3 rings on a his finger elsewhere. It wouldn't have happened.

Mac Jones is the next lucky guy in this very long list of names that will be read off in Canton when BB goes in. His portion of the ceremony will take 3 hours alone to get through as GM and Coach, the laurels are so long and distinguished.

A lot, many guys come into the league with talent, only a few make it. I think a lot of that is coaches who either do what they think is good for the coaches career, or just flat out have no clue how to transition a QB from college to the NFL (The Urban Meyer effect)

The Pats have gained a lot of recognition for their good play since the Chargers game. Then they improved in each of their next 2 games against the Panthers and Browns.
There's no more flying under the radar for these guys. BB has them eager to learn whatever he throws at them. They're primed for success.

I think there was a quiet "respect" or an "oh, no, BB did it again" after the TB and Dallas losses. The media couldn't wait to gloss over how well they played in a primetime scenario up against SB contenders and just kept saying "they lost" over and over. It's like, we know they lost, but they outplayed both teams when you go down the checklist. It's why it didn't shock me that they controlled that SD game (score wasn't reflective of the domination), controlled the Panthers and their supposed amazing D, or just did what they did to Cleveland.

Mac is giving them the ability to be that steward of the offense we used to have, and taking pressure off of our D in an offensive league.

Y'all realize that MJ10 is our QB1?
(Expecting booing, hissing.)

What I really like about him as well is at heart, he's just a happy, goofy kid. When he's at the podium he looks like a 15-year-old schoolkid dying to play Fortnite with someone. He has a sense of humour and is not afraid to roar laughing with the journalists. Yet under centre, he's an ice-cold killer!

He seems stoned to me. CaIm, happy, jovial, goofy. It's as if he gets off talking about football even if it is the media. Am I wrong?

No, he's a terrible GM. He let you know who go and Gilmore... On top of that Gilmore got a pick in that game against them, so there, proof positive :coffee:

Nope. He put the colas/buds into a coffee grinder (no seeds) and mixed the powder into his steak/eggs/&/sgetti pregame meal. :coffee:

Pregame meal? We don't want him going to sleep or getting the munchies! I was thinking post-game meal. OG Kush seems fitting

The Patriots are 6-4 with Mac Jones as their starting QB.
All other teams are a combined 5-24 with a rookie starting QB this season. (Justin Fields 2-5, Trevor Lawrence 2-7, Zach Wilson 1-5, Trey Lance 0-1, Davis Mills 0-6)
Astounding.

There is not a single negative you heard about him during the draft process that looks to be problematic, or even half-right, 10 games in.

If you want to challenge me on the "off-platform" thing, I might counter that you don't really need to roll out to your left and spin around to throw if you can find an open guy in 2 seconds
from the pocket.

I look at TV analysts as a generally sorry lot, but Charles Davis occasionally says something insightful and he noticed that Jones only throws as hard as he needs to, but can rip it, too. It was amazing to me how that got missed by so many people and became part of a collective body of wisdom that was way off.

Soon to fall by the wayside will be the "low-ceiling" thing.

There is nothing this kid can't get done in his own way. It'll just take a while for the pack to look both ways before they can cross that street to saying it out loud.

This post celebrates the people that were wrong about Mac Jones. And also those who can admit they were wrong and are now climbing aboard the bandwagon.

Here's a big thing in my mind. An idea that brings me the joy that only a truly perverse form of schadenfreude can bring. The GMs of 14 Teams, plus all of the QB needy teams that could have jumped the 15th pick and prevented the MAC Jones to the Patriots disaster, rueing their failures on draft day 2021, every single day for the rest of their lives..

How sweet it would be.

Cheers, BostonTim

It's already happening now. Look at the Rams. What stopped them from trading up to draft Mac Jones? They're in a tailspin with a top heavy roster and more cap hell. Look at all these teams basking in compliments by the media as the media takes potshots at BB during a rebuild/pandemic.

Our entire world is just upside down when it comes to fact and logic.
