Week 5 2022 Lions at Patriots

As the Brady stan around here, I have to say Zappe’s movement and pocket awareness was very reminiscent of Brady. He also did a great job of setting the protection, another Brady trait. The way Bill spoke about him seeing the game the same as the coaches is exactly how he talked about Brady early on.

For those who believe there is no Qb controversy right now, need I remind you this is Bill Belichick? No one’s job is guaranteed especially when a back up is playing so well. It will be interesting to see if Mac misses another game or two if Bill does not find himself right back in 2001 and declares Zappe the starter.

Also Mac trying to come back so soon now makes more sense as Brett Favre used to say “never let the coaches see the back up. “
If Zap/E keeps playing well...and the Pats keep winning, I could see it happening. Play the hot hand...

I haven't gone through the thread but has there been any love for Stevenson? Not for the obvious yardage totals but being a complete 3 down back and killing it in pass protection? That was the only hole in his game last year and he's obviously worked very hard on it. Props to him and the coaches. I think it's a guarantee they lose Harris to FA after this year but they'll be perfectly fine with Stevenson as the premier RB.

Rhambo is the Pats best RB. Now.

Yeah I've been saying this for awhile now, there's been no question in my mind, a true 3 down back. He can go through you or break your ankles. Such quick feet for his size. The 2 moves on this catch and run is filthy(~0:45 second mark). Watch the slowmo of it too, the stutter step then spin is just sick.

That video is gonna give DC's a headache. Wow.

Absolutely loved the physicality, All three phases.

Imagining what it will be like, say December.

Cheers

Your bolded quote sounds similar to the BB description of Brady, the one where Brady explains the five events of a given play and that description is accurate.

And conversely does Mac not do that?

I can't find any pertinent quotes, due to the fact that the internet is choked with quotes about Mac's injury, but I know he has praised similar things about
Mac's ability to learn and process everything, his high intelligence, multiple times, but I can't prove it.

That "sees the game" paragraph made me think of a quote from Bill on a rookie Brady where he had asked him about a play that had happened a while before and Brady supposedly detailed
every bit of it and Bill had a somewhat different recollection and went back and watched the film. He was impressed to find that Tom was correct. That made an
impression on the Boss and he did what he does when he wants to show he is pleased with a player paying careful attention or having unusually good smarts by allowing
himself to be quoted. He loves it when a kid works as hard as he can and doesn't when he doesn't. No question about it.

The subtext of it, to me, was that a lot of rookie QBs can't really "see the game" and I wouldn't read much more into it than that. Certainly not anything like
"Zappe is smarter than Mac". Just that they are both bright.

Whenever he praises a player, opponents included, you can bet that it'll get back to the guy and he'll feel like if he impressed Bill than he
must be on the right track. He tossed way more than the usual share yesterday, especially towards Rhamondre. It was interesting to me that he didn't note the
49-yard run, like a lot of people would, but the first downs he ground out to help kill the clock on our final drive as well as the blitz pickups. He called him a
"football player" (his highest praise) and said "I love him", which floored me. It made me think of Stevenson getting trucked in pass pro early last season and
how much he has improved in a year.

Sometimes a word or two of praise towards you from somebody you look up to is the greatest feeling in the world.

Heard Bourne was seen mouthing off to BB during yesterday's game. And was sent to the bench.
Don't like hearing that.
Is Bourne going to get himself traded?

(Agholor has a hamstring issue.)

I wouldn't be surprised if we moved him for a draft pick.

Bourne screwed up twice on a drive and did appear to be angry at Bill for correcting him on the sidelines. Bill
had to get his composure back because appeared pissed that Bourne talked back to him.

I've come to believe that Bourne is about half nuts and if he isn't gone then he's got to be dangling by a thread. It
appeared insubordinate and we don't play that shit.

EDIT: Please disregard this post entirely. Bill came out and basically said that Bourne is like a son to him and all is well. Apparently I went
hysterical here. Not for the last time, no doubt.

Consistently good pocket awareness and movement; everything was always on time and in rhythm. This was some really good quarterback play yesterday by Zappe, I don't care who the opponent was.

I always admired Brady's and Manning's (Peyton, not Eli) ability to slide left and right in the pocket as opposed to Romo's and Roger's running back and forth or Favre's wild chicken-with-its-head-cut-off muddle. I knew moving up in the pocket was an option, but I never thought of taking extra forward steps and get fully open before throwing the ball as something to do as a plan rather than a reaction. Zappe got almost to
the LOS so that all the fatties were behind him and he could see everything on the field clearly laid out. Easy pitch and catch.

Great win! Hopefully, Zappe lights a fire under Jones' ass. The kid can play. I told someone yesterday that Jones might be Wally Pipped. The defense shut out the highest scoring team in the league. The Pats are a better team than their record indicates.
If you think the issue is a lack of motivation from Mac Jones then I would say you don't really know much of what you are talking about.
