BB Planet

I've always been a BB guy. I was in favor of giving up a 1st to the Jets to bring him in here, because great players
have always recognized that he gives them an edge on their opponent if they just listen to him and that is a theme
that present players repeat the exact same way as Ty Law and others did 24 years ago when they were lobbying
Bob hard that Bill was the guy. It worked out pretty good, didn't it?

Still, I'm trying hard to not get frustrated that it finally ended the way it did, because at some point I began to tire
of some of the quirks the man has. And there were a few of those that seemed foolhardy. And I started asking myself
questions and noticing certain things.

I'll have more to say on that in time, but it's only been a week and every day something will pop into my head,
for instance, I'll think "well, shit.....maybe Mayo thinks he can do better than having a Defensive Back who gives up
a completion on 9 out of every 10 targets even if he's a wonderful person."
and so forth. I mean.....that's only one less than any of
us would give up. We keep hearing that particular dude is very versatile and I agree-- he can give up a 90% completion
rate no matter where he lines up. He can't cover Jake from State Farm. Not even the original pudgy, white one with the khakis
and I just know that if Bill stuck around then so would he.

I feel sort of like a cow looking at a fence with a gate mistakenly left open and what appears to be some really tasty and green grass just on
the other side. I'm not at all sure I belong on that side of the fence, but I might wander over and give that grass a try before long.

But......I'm afraid to. Could it be poison? I dunno. :shrug-n: Maybe it's just too soon, and it's all too fresh. 24 years is a long time.

This is a lot to process.
I mean, I'll be completely and totally honest. I don't give two fucks about the Red Sox anymore. And it took me a while to try to figure out why. Not just because they won, not just because of the pink hats.. I've been trying to rack my brain about it every time someone mentions them - and the way the Krafts have been kicking Belichick on the way out clarified it for me. It's because of what they did to Francona when they fired him. Yeah, his run was over and he probably needed to be fired - what didn't need to happen was the coordinated effort to make him look like the shittiest person possible when they fired him. The owners and Larry Lucchino ran to any reporter they could find and fed them story after story for weeks and months. To the point where you'd wonder why they hired him in the first place.

And what sucks about the Belichick situation, is not only that it's the same thing, the Krafts and Mayo feeding any reporter who will listen, to the point where you'd almost forget they traded a first round pick for the guy to hire him in the first place. No, what sucks about it is, that after 30 years of ownership, including unprecedented success for more than 20 of that (and I can extend that even further to Bledsoe) - that their habit early on of leaks and plants in the media, along with meddling in the football operations, and the damage that caused, was detrimental, and when they didn't do that, that's when things turned around. They're the owners, they can hire and fire whomever they want - and I'm not completely opposed to Belichick being fired.

What I am opposed to is just Belichick being fired, leaving everything else the same, and expecting things to turn around - and, oh by the way, making sure to get as many shots in to the best head coach to ever do it on the way out.

It's not only petty and unnecessary, it's a recipe for disaster, and the reason long-time fans of the team are freaking out a bit, is because we have seen this movie before with the Krafts. And although we may have forgotten, or it faded, it all came rushing back that this what what it was like when Parcells left. Parcells is an irredeemable prick for doing what he did, but I certainly understand his reasons.

I'm always football first, and I'm always going to be a Patriots fan, but I fear that fandom will fade over time like it did with the Red Sox. Also, I'm not going to openly root for whatever team Belichick ends up with, that's pretty gross in its own right, but I won't be sad if he has success.

I will. His team will be third after #1 (Pats) and a distant #2 (Leos), but I will root for his teams when they can have no negative impact on the first 2. We will see how often that can happen based on where he lands. Bills? Won't root for him. Falcons? Ok, I will often. Cowboys? Just long enough for him to beat SumbagShula. Then back to F the pokes.

Just listened to Mike Reiss say he was shocked at how much dysfunction there was inside Foxboro and that ppl were actually glad when Bill left. It was worse than I imagined. Reiss is not known for being a scumbag reporter.

What show was he on? Is there a link?

It was Mike Reiss and Christian Fauria on Sports Final. Correction: it was Fauria that said that but Mike was there basically agreeing.

it sounds like he is referring to all those reports of people being huddled around gossiping that seemed to be leaked out. but either way i don't agree with them that it was handled well by kraft.
plotting to oust your coach for a whole year before you do it and making them all pretty aware of that is setting things up for dysfunction. they just should have fired him after 2022.

Factor in being last in actual cash spending for the last 10 years, BB did a hell of a good job imo. Every team has misses.

People are underrating the Patriots draft classes prior to 2019. Relative to other teams' drafting Belichick has done very well.

This discussion is so wild...There are people who make the Patriots defenses better than they were to argue Brady wasn't great and then there are people who just want to give 99% of the credit to Brady. When the trivial answer is that it this level of sustained success is only possible when both were among the greatest of all time.
