Looking at the Patriots 2024

This years FA class was one of the worst in recent memory. We did get our bridge QB. We may get either a WR or a OT before this is over.
Fortunately this is a strong draft class in all 3 positions.

I've said before my fear was the team throwing money at FAs in order to make a quick playoff return, I didn't want that because it wasn't sustainable and we would be right back where we are now in a couple of seasons. So I'm in with the rebuild, and planning to be competitive again in a couple of seasons.

The problem is that it would take a near historic draft to fix all three big O positions (QB,WR,LT) in one draft, and a rookie QB can't really succeed without the other two positions filled out.

Everything hinges on us finding the Qb. We still have a top defense so even without a loaded offense, a solid Qb can have success.

So TheAthletic has a list of the top 150 FA and where they signed. Dugger is listed as Still Available, but other than him and Onwenu, the first time the New England Cash Burners™ appear on the list is at 104 Austin Hooper. Jacoby Brissett is only on the list, and Joh Uche.

What pisses me off the most is...remember how gleeful we were about the Bill starting the season $40 mill over the cap? Well, somehow they managed to sign a WR. # 69: Curtis Samuel from the Commanderskins. Not a superstar but still they added a new WR.

I'm not asking for a whole lot, but Kraft is acting as if he's unaware we have a cap floor to get up to.

90% of $255M = $229,500,000 Patriots are $50M under and have to spend at least $24M. KJ Osborn and Kyle Dugger will count against what they must spend. If another team offers Dugger 3/$54M or an AAV of $18M will the Patriots match and spend spend??

Don't forget about Myles Bryant

Finally. A WR that can catch a football.

#124 on the top FA list

Vikings Age: 27 Ht: 5-11 Wt: 203
Osborn had a disappointing season, dropping seven passes, according to PFF. But he was rarely the primary read, and he's a strong blocker and runner after the catch. He's probably in line for a short-term deal between $5 million and $8 million. — Alec Lewis

That's what they need to spend to keep pace with the cap floor, but the floor is based on 2024, 2025, and 2026. So they could spend less this year as long as they make it up in 2025 and 2026, but I'm relatively certain that they will spend over 90% of the cap this year.

Well, yeah, of course it is hard which is why we have a former GB exec helping us. That org has transitioned now three times from Favre to Rodgers to Love. We all know we need the QB to really have a chance at any sustained success and build around him. We will see if we can find THE GUY in this year's draft or wait until next year ... or maybe they have something else in mind. I was psyched they made a legit play to get Mayfield and Evans. They are serious about getting this ship righted.
I'd have been psyched if they got Mayfield and Evens, but they didn't. :deadhorse:

I suspect that with BB gone, the defense could regress.
it is certainly possible as that was Bill‘s side of the ball and he was a savant. What gives me optimism is there is a lot of talent on that side of the ball and of course Mayo is a defensive guy.

And then you realize the Pats' D lost Bill and Steve who was the play caller.
