Favorite Band - Signature Song

Another favorite band for me was Styx with "Renegade" and "Blue Collar Man" being at the top of the list for me.

Let's throw in AC/DC and "Jailbreak".

Man bid, we could’ve hung out by a bonfire pounding beers anytime!:toast:

Though with AC/DC I’d go For Those About To Rock.

Alice In Chains

Down In A Hole or Man In The Box

2 diametrically opposite song styles but I just can’t choose.

Huge Styx fan growing up. Gonna stray from the mainstream options and take one off the Cyclorama album. Great song. Rumor has it that it's about DeYoung who's ego seemed to get in his way and forced the band to ostracize him at the end.

Killing the Thing That You Love

Brick by brick you built a mansion
Piece by piece it seems
You're tearing it down

Once you walked so tall and handsome
Now nobody even wants you around
Now you're just some kind of
Leftover clown
Now you're like Quasi Modo crying

As you look in the mirror
At what you've become
Killing the thing that you love
Like Lennon's assassin
Lennon's assassin

Reaching for Venus De Milo
But she's never gonna hold you tight
You plant plutonium silos
Then you blister from the sun that's too bright
Like a vampire stepping into the light
Just a victim of your own greed as you

Look in the mirror
At what you've become
Killing the world that you love
Like Lennon's assassin
Lennon's assassin

The genius of a generation
Blown away just like a leaf on the wind
And now you're looking for salvation
But you can't forget the places you've been
And you can't erase a lifetime of sin
And you can't escape the answers as you

Look in the mirror
At what you've become
Dredging the river for what you have done
Killing the thing that you love
Like Lennon's assassin
Lennon's assassin

Became a Pink Floyd fan once I found the wonders of cannabis. I use the bolded quote in class every year with my seniors. Morbid but very real world.

Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away, across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spell

Pink Floyd is my favorite followed closely by Tool and Slayer. I've seen em all at least once and some a bunch.

But here's something from Type O' Negative. So many great songs to choose from and I saw them a ton of times at relatively small clubs in NE before Peter Steele died. We became very good friends and lotsa fun on the tour bus after some shows.

Sounds like a family suicide but it was about Peters damn cat. :) They were so tongue firmly planted in cheek that it was hysterical watching the goths that attended the shows get all lovey with their Black No. 1 died hair partners over songs like Christian Woman.

Just too perfect.

Bloody Kisses (A Death in the Family)

Type O Negative

Not long ago but far away
A rainy winter's day
All her pain she kept inside
Could no longer hide
No cry for help
She killed herself
Both life & love could not be saved
She took them both to the grave
A pair of souls become undone
Where were two now one
divided by this wall of death
I soon will join you yet
With my blood I'll find your love
You found the strength to end you life
As you did so shall I
Oh no
Please don't go
It's like a death in the family
A crimson pool so warm and deep
Lulls me to an endless sleep
Your hand in mine - I will be brave
Take me from this earth
An endless night - this, the end of life
From the dark I feel your lips
And I taste your bloody kiss
Oh no
Please don't go
It's like a death in the family
Don't die on me
Don't die on me
Don't die on me
don't' die

I seen them in Tempe, Arizona. October Rust tour. They were one of my faves.

Perfect.

Can’t think of a better tune to represent Floyd than Time.

Counting Crows - Mrs. Potters Lullabye

Amazing tune and lyrics.

Down In A Hole or Man In The Box

Layne Staley's best friend gave me a few very rare pics of him and Layne and his gf...and his eulogy. It's kinda trippy. The Wilson sisters (Heart) played acoustic songs for it. He spoke at his funeral. Darren is a crazy mofo. He was roommates with my best friend. He owned a night club in Seattle from money that Layne gave him. He was on tour with AIC for everyone of them that Layne was in. He had some interesting stories. And yes, he's also a heroin junkie.

My favorite AIC songs were Nutshell and Down In A Hole.

I would go with this for Pink Floyd:

Welcome to the Machine Lyrics
(Waters) 7:30

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been.
You've been in the pipeline, filling in time,
Provided with toys and 'Scouting for Boys'.
You brought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn't like school, and you
know you're nobody's fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It's alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star,
He played a mean gituar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar.
He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the Machine.

Pink Floyd - Goodbye Blue Sky

Look mummy, there's an aeroplane up in the sky

Did-did-did-did-you see the frightened ones?
Did-did-did-did-you hear the falling bombs?
Did-did-did-did-you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter
When the promise of a brave new world
Unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

Did-did-did-did-you see the frightened ones?
Did-did-did-did-you hear the falling bombs?
The flames are all long gone, but the pain lingers on

Goodbye, blue sky
Goodbye, blue sky
Goodbye
Goodbye

New Model Army Vengeance:

Escaped the net in '45, hiding out in South America
Protected by money and powerful friends
Hoping the world has forgotten by now
All the things that you did in the Nazi Death camps
The people that you tortured and killed
You can live you life in expectant fear
Sure some day you'll be made to pay
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the bastard
Man walks over dressed in flashy clothes
With an empty heart and a head full of money
Puts his arm around the lad of fifteen years
Talks sort of close like a long-lost brother
"It's really cool, all the pop stars do
If you don't try a little you'd really be a fool
Tell you what I'll do, I'll make the first one free
And when you want some more just come back to me"
[Alternative version of second verse:]
Loading up the barrels at the warehouse gates
Men in overalls on double rates
Put the stuff in the river and away for a beer
Don't worry too much, they don't live around here
And the poison seeps into every pore
Every child's eyes, every innocent's sore
Everybody knows behind the closed doors
Kick down the doors, kick down the doors
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the bastard
Top-dog fascist gets the boys in the corner
Plants poison where there was just confusion
Walks away scot-free and laughing
Rides on the tide as the cancer grows
And the business man on corruption charges
With millions of dollars in dirty money
Gets a thousand pound fine after months in court
While the lawyers get fat and the law gets bought
Ch: I believe in justice
I believe in vengeance
I believe in getting the bastard

or Siouxsie and the Banshees Voodoo Dolly

"Voodoo Dolly"

She's your little voodoo dolly,
and she's gonna make you lazy;
Like the little drum in your ear
transfixes you to your fear,
And now she's transfixed in your fear,
And you know she's gonna stay there...
Because her nails are deep in your hair,
And she made you so... unaware...

Are you listening to your fear?
The beat is coming nearer...
Like that little drum in your ear,
Transfixes you to your fear...

She's such an ugly little dolly,
And she's making you look very silly...
When you listen in to her ear,
You get paralyzed with her fear...
Oh, down... down... down, down in your fear...
Down... down... down, down in your fear...

Now this little voodoo dolly
Has made you very lazy...
You're anaemic from her sucking,
And when you're dead, she'll find another...
Better break that little dolly,
And sling her in the corner...
Now she's a sorry little dolly!
Such a sorry little dolly!

Are you listening to your fear?
The beat is coming nearer...
Like that little drum in your ear
Transfixes you to your fear...

Listen, listen, listen, listen,
Listen, listen, listen, listen,
Listen, listen, listen, listen,
Listen, listen, listen, listen,
Listen! Listen, listen!
Listen to your fear...

Listen!
Listen!
Lis-listen!
Lis-listen!
Lis-listen!
Listen!
Listen!
Listen... to your fear...

Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!

(Listen to your fear.
Listen to your fear.)

Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!
Listen to your fear, oh...

Listen! Listen!
Listen!

Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!
Listen! Listen!

She...
She...
She...
She...
She...
She...
She...
She...
She...
She...

She's your little voodoo dolly...

Running To Stand Still
U2

And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Lying still
Said I gotta do something
About where we're going
Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing ha, ah la la la de day
Ah da da da de day
Ah la la de day
Sweet the sin
Bitter than taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice
You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing ha la la la de day
Ha la la la de day
Ha la la de day
She runs through the streets
With eyes painted red
Under a black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will
Suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand
Still

"Clampdown"
The Clash

Hey, hey!
Ooh!
The kingdom is ransacked
the jewels all taken back
and the chopper descends
they're hidden in the back
with a message on a half-baked tape
with the spool going round
saying I'm back here in this place
and I could cry
and there's smoke you could click on

What are we gonna do now?
Taking off his turban, they said, is this man a Jew?
'Cause they're working for the clampdown
They put up a poster saying we earn more than you!
When we're working for the clampdown
We will teach our twisted speech
To the young believers
We will train our blue-eyed men
To be young believers

The judge said five to ten, but I say double that again
I'm not working for the clampdown
No man born with a living soul
Can be working for the clampdown
Kick over the wall 'cause government's to fall
How can you refuse it?
Let fury have the hour, anger can be power
D'you know that you can use it?

The voices in your head are calling
Stop wasting your time, there's nothing coming
Only a fool would think someone could save you
The men at the factory are old and cunning
You don't owe nothing, so boy get running
It's the best years of your life they want to steal

You grow up and you calm down
You're working for the clampdown
You start wearing the blue and brown
You're working for the clampdown
So you got someone to boss around
It makes you feel big now
You drift until you brutalize
You made your first kill now

In these days of evil presidentes
Working for the clampdown
But lately one or two has fully paid their due
For working for the clampdown
Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong!
Working for the clampdown
Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong!
Working for the clampdown

Yeah I'm working hard in Harrisburg
Working hard in Petersburg
Working for the clampdown
Working for the clampdown
Ha! Gitalong! Gitalong
Begging to be melted down
Gitalong, gitalong
(Work)
(Work)
(Work) And I've given away no secrets - ha!
(Work)
(Work)
(More work)
(More work)
(Work)
(Work)

Who's barmy now?

loved them until I saw them live, what a F'd up concert, in coherent babble.

great song still

Agreed. August and Everything After is one of the all-time great debut albums.

But god, they suck in concert. Adam Duritz just talks his way through songs. Turrrrible.

"Old Man"
Neil Young

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

I'm Eighteen
Alice Cooper
Lines form on my face and hands
Lines form from the ups and downs
I'm in the middle without any plans
I'm a boy and I'm a man
I'm eighteen
And I don't know what I want
Eighteen
I just don't know what I want
Eighteen
I gotta get away
I gotta get out of this place
I'll go runnin' in outer space
Oh yeah
I got a
Baby's brain and an old man's heart
Took eighteen years to get this far
Don't always know what I'm talkin' about
Feels like I'm livin' in the middle of doubt
'Cause I'm
Eighteen
I get confused every day
Eighteen
I just don't know what to say
Eighteen
I gotta get away
Lines form on my face and my hands
Lines form on the left and right
I'm in the middle
The middle of life
I'm a boy and I'm a man
I'm eighteen and I like it
Yes I like it
Oh I like it
Love it
Like it
Love it
Eighteen!
Eighteen!
Eighteen!
Eighteen and I like it
